i found when doing sheets of magnetic, i made sure it was taped down to work bench, so when applying the vinyl i had more control to apply it properly 😀

Strange that, lynn has a similar problem, I don’t (well not as often)
but lynn is susceptible to static, and quite often gets a static shock

Could that have something to do with it? Long shot I know, but maybe?

before i do any flooding, i wipe down with water and washing-up liquid, it stops static, the person who told me to do so, makes and owns a correx making factory, we all know how bad that can be, it works on almost every other substrate i’ve used 😀

😀 😀 Used to hate those acrylic headboards, if they weren’t fisheyeing the paint was exploding (usually when you went to shade, so you had the main lettering to clean up too! 🙁 🙁 )

i think the material was opaque harry the same stuff as used for lightboxes am i right ?…ahhh those were the days in the late seventys when i started in this game we used to do a lot of work at a coachbuilders and it was the first thing my boss got me to do was to clean the headboard off give it time to settle …..its weird how at times you thought youd get away with it …all lettered …finnished tool box in the van ready to go and look up at it only to fined your lettering had went hairy AAAAHHHHH !!!

hmm the vinyl guys are now wondering what the hell we are on about here 😀 😀

😀 😀 😀 jesus Brian….you’re bringing back memories here, like you we did all the writing for Scania and Volvo dealers…….almost full time work. These were in the days were mentioning design or layouts would get you laughed at….poncy git! 😀 😀 Most of the owners wanted the lorries lettered in the same colour they where sprayed in on a white panel, which meant lettering with two pack with a tiny bit of hardener in it!!!!!! Nightmare for the signwriter and his brushes! Myself and dad could do a full Scania unit in about three hours….him lettering and me shading……….good days.

PC repair people have the same problem, visit a PC repair web site and search for an "anti-static wristband". I believe you need to earth yourself to stop the problem.

I know I am coming in on this discussion after everyone has gone home but I just thought I would mention….
Years ago I worked for a company in the silicon valley of California. They manufactured high end electronic products. They not only used the arm and foot straps to control static they also wore shoe coverings (sort of like hair nets for your shoes) and the floors were treated with a wax that controlled static.

I too was one of those people that could shock the dog. I frustrated the computer tech at work. I fried my computer with my static, made my watches malfunction, zapped my kids on the lips occasionally when I would kiss them. I would get shocked on the arms shoulders just walking between cubicles at work. Static isn’t fun.

GOOD NEWS – I realized two things: that when I stopped wearing mules (slip on shoes) and sold my vehicles that had velor interior that the problem was alleviated to a great degree.
Hope this helps anyone that has static problems. They aren’t fun!
