How best to colour match anodised aluminium extrusion
Hi All,
I have a customer who wants to have a RAL colour on a modular anodised satin silver aluminium sign system that I am potentially supplying them & I’m wondering what the best way to achieve this would be. Either powder coated or spray painted?
I don’t do either here & the supplier of the system can’t do it so either way I have to outsource it.
The customer is asking for any possible guarantees or expected lifespan but any powder coaters I’ve contacted so far won’t give a guarantee as they didn’t produce the anodising, which I guess is understandable.
I’d just like to be able to supply the most durable option for the customer so wonder is it better to paint or powder coat?
I have vaguely contemplated wrapping them but don’t really think that would be as durable long term.
Does anybody have any experience in this line?

Have always used powder coating in the past. Never had any issues. i would put my money on this being better and longer lasting than spray

We powder coat modular sign systems on a daily basis (silver anodised and mill finished. In my opinion powder coating would be the way to go due to the durability of the finish.

That settles that then, powder coat it is.
Do you have any info on what type (thermoplastic or thermoset) & class of powder coatings either of you use?
One company I got a quote from (actually a double glazed window manufacturer) said they use class 1 but I’m not certain which type they use, I suspect thermoset is the most common?
