  • High Tack CAD Vinyl – recommendations please?

Posted by David Hammond on 22 October 2015 at 13:49

Got a project we’re working on, applying vinyl to some powder coated panels, they’re not perfectly smooth with an orange peel texture.

The graphics are just white cut vinyl logo’s and text, I’m looking for a high tack adhesive plotter vinyl, I know I can buy digital media that’s high tack but a 50m roll is a bit excessive for this job!

    I tried Metamark’s M7, but it doesn’t have a high grab we’re looking for.

    Any recommendations?

    Hi David

I think Spandex supply their Image Perfect Hi-Tack print vinyl by the metre.
I don’t print in house but enquired once for a cut vinyl job. It didn’t go ahead
    so I can’t comment on it’s suitability.

    Cheers

have applied std vinyl to loads of Powder Coated panels, posts etc never had a problem at a push apply a little heat. Orange peel shouldn’t cause to much of a problem especially if a little heat is used. High tack may give you more problems than you think it will solve

Yes didn’t think of heat. Will see if their H&S guy will allow it.

It’s being installed on a £250k machine so needs to be right.

The powder coating is a matt finish, I was surprised it didn’t stick like it does to vans.

there are finishes put on some machine to repel dirt etc, but standard powder coat matt or gloss should accept standard vinyl ok. You may find its a test it and see apply & leave for 24/48hrs and then check

    Hi David

we powder coat in house for a huge range of trade clients every day and apply vinyl on a daily basis the only problems we ever come across are some powders have a high wax level such as blues and whites which can leave a low adhesion so tend to as above use a image perfect super grip and touch wood seems to do the trick and isn’t too pricey either :thumbup2:

    hope that helps

3M 80 series is a very high grab and quality vinyl. 50 series is my daily one and sticks far better than most with a high initial grab.

Not been impressed with Metamark 7 series. Lacks the initial grab I want.

Ritrama 400 series is also pretty sticky.

    Cheers David :thumbup2:

Will see if I can get a sample and try it on the panels we’re fitting it too.

Oracal 751 is a decent cast vinyl with the grabbiest adhesive Ive ever used.
bonus it is also the least expensive cast vinyl I know of.

    Spandex can jog on…

Rang up for a price, and the account’s on stop, because it’s not been used in a few years. They’ve no record of the order I placed a fortnight ago for some sign components.

Credit control won’t undo it, they can’t give me a price without going through hoops and setting up a ‘one off’ account. :banghead:

Yeh, their customer service sucks. Can’t or won’t sell you anything without jumping through hoops…c’mon I wouldn’t expect my customers to disclose their business finances and projections or get references to set up a cash sale account…just give me the money and you get your stuff…shame as some of their products are excellent.
