    Hi,
My wife and myself bought a cutter that everyone loves to hate! a foison C24. Now I had a lot of hair pulling to get it working but got there in the end. I myself have 2 retail shops and have been using it for signs on the windows which works great for me. As to get simple vinyl on corriboard is very dear here in Ireland. So I am happy and it looks great and I can change the signs quite often.
I never intended to setup a sign making business or even do it on the side but a local business man wants me to make him some signs as he has seen my own efforts. I have been putting him off for the last year or so but now he is putting pressure on me again. He is a friend and we are in a small business town so it hard to say no. I am going to have to do this now because another business owner has joined him to get me to do it.(What part of NO do they not understand!!!!!) all said and done the extra money would be nice. So how do I price the job? I don’t want to undercut anyone but there is no one local doing this within 40 miles anyway.

    Regards

    Aiden

Welcome to the boards Aiden, good to have you here mate…
seeing as you are so far from ANY sign makers within that sort of radious, it may not be a bad idea in offering the service part or full time. obviously knowing what you are doing is most important first. no point opening a restaurant if you cant boil and egg, so to speak. :lol1:
anyway, good to have you here…

Hi All thanks for the replys,
Ian your are right there is one sign shop in the next town and I got a price of 180 euros for a 3mm corriboard size 44inch X 65 inch with red vinyl lettering "clearance sale now on" on the board. I dont think that a right price to charge but what do I know about sign making business. I have been in business for the last 35 years and that tell me my prices are right.

    regards

    aiden 🙂

with a bit of haggling about 150- 160 euro would be about right.

Guy has to make a living,

What mark up do you work on?

Board £10, Vinyl £10, application tape and sundries £5 Time discussing what you needed, 1/2 hr £25
Design on Computer Minimum charge £25.
Applying to and cutting Board £25

    sub total £ 100.00

25% markup for profit. ( hope to retire in less than 35 yrs or i might have to start a shop to save money on my daily newspaper)

    Total £125.00 ( Euro x 1.15 ) 140 Euro + (VAT 21%)

    TOTAL 169.40 EURO

    He’s not far off.

I thought this was a forum for sign makers, not shop owners who are into DIY signs.
Once you see what a pain cheap customers can be you will realize why we charge what we charge.
It might be only a small correx sign but you are also paying me for my 26 years experience and know-how in the sign trade.
