I’m 24, from Fife but recently moved to Harthill, Lanarkshire. I was a ‘ticketwriter’ with B&Q for 4 years but as of today i am self employed and very nervous.

Have been trying to set up on my own for over a year now but found that the part time thing doesn’t work. After looking through some of the advice on this site, took the plunge and handed in my notice.

I have a jaguar II-61 cutter and Signpal Expert software which i have become reasonably familiar with. Applying isn’t my strongest point hope with a bit more practise and help from the pro’s in this site, i’ll get better. Fingers crossed!

The plan for today is to take a trip round local businesses, introduce myself and hand cards out. I’m quite a shy person so not looking forward to it at all.

Thanks all for the help so far, wish me luck cause i think i’ll need it!

good luck in your cold calling…. be brave and confident. Go into the places you visit at least twice or you will be wasting your time. A good port folio of your work really will help.

I was a ticket/poster writer for many years in the eighties, funny enough I done some tickets for a customer of mine last week, also I still do the very occasional dayglo poster.

Hello Julie,

A shy person from Fife? Is there such a thing? Only kidding, I’m from Fife. Sure you will recieve lots of help on here, this is the place to be. I only recently started doing this full time after selling my pub and can tell you that this site has been invaluable. Lots of great, knowledgeable people here and always willing to help. It is also very much worthwhile getting full membership at some point as you will very quickly recover the cost of membership through the supplier discounts.
