Hi, been trying to run my first vinyl cut today on my new versacamm, as a photoshop long term user i’m struggling with corel for the first time… and having been tied up all day tring to do one flippin sign I eventually succumbed and decided to ask here.

Ok I can create text, get bevels, shadow etc etc no problem. I can even create a cut line inside the outline of the text no problem… but can I get a cut line inside the gaps in the text???????? NOPE!

I’m talking about stuff like the centre of the "O" and "D" etc I can get a contour line to run around the circumference of the middle of the letter but i can get it inside the line for bleed

    Any help?

Can you give us a step by step example of what you are doing, I’m not sure I fully understand your question. Are you familiar with the difference between outline and contour in Draw.

Hi, over the weekend I discovered exactly what it is that I can’t seem to do. The problem seems to be with adding the boundary before I add the contours. I can’t seem to get the boundary to go "inside" the letters ie the space in the middle of the "O" , no problems everywhere else.

It’s probably something really simple in the text settings? If i was in photoshop I would hazard a guess that the space in the middle of the letter wasn’t transparent.

does that explain a little more?

    Regards
    Mo

Boundary is not designed for the insides but purely for the boundary of a single or multiple objects.
Contour is for a vector/cutable outline, including inner shapes – multiple objectswill need grouping first.
Outline tool is a bit map outline which will print but won’t cut. It ‘straddles’ the actual vector line and is very usefull for adding a little bleed an actual cutline. This outline can have various attributes to it is rounded corners and can be made a vector using – arrange – convert outline to object/ctrl+shift+Q

I think you may need to "combine" the shapes making up the inner and outer contours.

I don’t have the latest version of Corel but older versions have a "Combine" function that assigns two or more contours as a single object.

Ok I’ll have a go and come back to you, In one of my training vids it says add a boundary before adding a contour line. I can get the contour lines on the inside of the lettering but cant get it to move inside the shape to allow for bleed and clipping etc. It works on the outside fine

Watch this space, thanks for help

Phill, combine and group are completely different in this context.
ie – Single shape – add contour – contour as expected
2 or more shape ungrouped – contour not available
2 or more shape grouped – contour applied as expected
