hi all – new member here after some advice if possible.
just purchased a seiko colorpainter 64s – just looking to set a rip up to it, i have downloaded a trial version of shiraz, looks like ok software, all seems to load fine – connected through the scsi port (all the numbers look ok to me, printer and pc have their own scsi id number). i can bring a job in, set it to buffer (think this means it reads all the info) but when i send to print i keep getting an I/O error – input / output fail – can anyone help on this, its driving me mad…..

    thanks

Stafford Cox is the best man to answer this and he is a member and had first hand experience with Shiraz, but I think the software is just not seeing the printer.

    His details are:-

As Dave says Stafford is your man, are you sure you can print using the demo version, some demo versions will only let you print the pre installed samples & nothing else.

Hi Steve (and thanks Dave and Martin).

I didn’t do an awful lot of Seiko stuff but I know the ASPI drivers were something to do with it and a little flakey at best. If you can let me know what model of SCSI card you’re running I can investigate. For example, if it’s an Adaptec 29160, you’ll need something like this:

    http://www.adaptec.com/en-us/speed/soft … a2_exe.htm

I’m a bit rusty with the Shiraz/Seiko interface as it’s been a few years since I last did one and I was a bit Mimaki biased in those days anyway. Let me know if you’re stuck and we’ll see what we can do.

    Hi, thanks all,
I’ve tried a couple of different things so far, the aspi thing sounds like it could be the problem (hopefully). Or something as simple as a scsi cable, I’m more a mac kind of person, not up to date with scsi cards etc, think it is an adaptec though. I had someone else install the card ( which is the original card connected previously to the printer), @ Martin, according to Shiraz it’s a full production version for 15 days, if I can get it running, it looks an ok rip, think Shiraz will be in touch today to connect remotley, they seem good at replying to emails etc…so fingers crossed and thanks again..

Good luck. You’re in good hands dealing with Shiraz direct, I’d imagine it’s Mo or Darius you’re dealing with. Let me know if I can help at all.

arrgh, driving me crazy!!…shiraz were good for getting in touch, just trying the same things ive tried really, all the scsi numbers seem to be fine on startup (adaptec card + seeing the printer scsi). considering a different rip, anyone know if onyx postershop 7 has scsi connectivity ???. i think i can get a version of that to try. seems a shame though because the shiraz seems really nice to use.

Make sure you have a scsi terminal at the end of your scsi chain, thats important, also check what type of scsi cable and connector you have.. as there are many types and some look the same.

Where in the country are you? If you’re local and stuck, I’ll drop in on my way past and see if I can remember how to do it 😳

hi stafford – thanks for the offer, still driving me mad..think i’m very nearly there, i think its something to do with the port – stp setup (dont really know what that means though!!) only got a few days left on the demo though, i’m going to see if they can extend it for me to keep trying – i’m based in the north west, stockport

Sorry Steve, I only just saw your reply. How are you getting on now? I can’t imagine me being in your neck of the woods any time soon but you’re more than welcome to call for any telephone support you need….
