    HI Harl,

i’m guessing you’re looking to make it in cut vinyl. as opposed to print.

either way, I’m afraid you won’t be able to simply trace the image, you’ll need to re-draw the design, using various tools to draw and manipulate lines, draw ovals etc, once you get proficient at it, it shouldn’t take too long, but i’m afraid it’s a case of practice makes perfect.

as a start, you’d need to make the layers of ovals and colour fill them, then add and curve the text to fit, then re-draw the guy in the middle (the hard bit),

what version of corel draw are you using, i may be able to give you some pointers if its cdr12.

Yup, the output medium may be different, but I gave up on using Corel Trace ages ago. It may take more time, however by redrawing the graphic on a new layer I end up with a nice crisp graphic ideal for engraving (or cutting!!)

I too use Corel Draw 12 and have found a few ways to optimise graphics for for plotter output (engraving, cutting etc.)

    Cheers Graeme

corel trace has it’s place, i’ve done quite a lot of graphics using it, mainly just images that dont need to me pinpoint accurate, see the brittania thread somewhere in this section for an example.

learning to redraw stuff is fundamental to doing 95% of the general work i do, so is well worth learning, though i have to admit… i never stop learning ! i’ve been using cdr12 for over 18mnths now, and find new stuff every week !

Ive been a Corel user since version 4 hit the shelves, but mainly for DTP stuff. 9 time out of 10 I can redraw a logo quicker than I can trace and touch up. I can then select the level of detail so I end up with 3 files for the same graphic. It is very powerful software when you get to know it, but as with any software package on the market I probably only use about 20% of its functionality.

Fortunately most of the work I get is military, and many of the capbadges have the same features repeated, hence I have a vault of bits that I import to make a whole graphic.

    Cheers all
