  • help with cutting after laminating

    Hi all
I,m slowly getting to grips with the printing side but am having difficulty with cutting, after printing the signs and putting reg marks on then laminating it with pressure sensitive laminate putting it back on the Cadet reg marks picked up ok(so far so good) but still can’t get the cadet to cut through the laminate, what settings do i need to adjust is it the blade itself or is it the pressure (at mo its at 50gsm) help please before they take me away in a straight jacket dribbling and muttering “it just won’t cut, it just won’t cut” thanks in advance 😀

You need to do 2 things 1) use a 60 degree blade and not a 45 degree one and 2) there is a test cut button on the machine itself where you can vary the pressure , use that to get the correct pressure and then put it into the RIP (if your RIP allows cut speeds and pressures )
DO NOT cut or test with the heaters on , the first bit of the vinyl gets heated and soft and the rest doesn’t leading to inconsistent pressures and cuts and odd distortions as the hot vinyl stretches.

There are documents at the Roland site that will help
http://www.rolanddga.com , look under support for various machines and have a look at thier pdfs under user resources etc
05-01_Mystery_Booklet_2005.pdf is one too look for , but I cant find it at the moment on their site, Called “Taking the mystery out of print/cut” and its very good
Your machine is the same as the SP300

Wot Rodney said, also your cut pressure needs to be a lot more, mine is set at around 110 – 120 for vinyl and laminate.

Make sure the blade is out enough to cut through as well, don’t have it out too much though.

Never used the 60 deg blades do they make much difference Rodney.

good advice here. I have two profiles saved on my machine. One to cut unlaminated, the other laminated. My laminated pressure is set to 120, unlaminated set to about 75.

    cheers
