  • Help with choosing an A3 printer for heat transfers

Posted by TimDouglas on January 3, 2008 at 1:20 pm

Hi folks , looking for a Good A3 printer for use with producing heat transfers , I really like the Epson R1800 which is most peoples choice and I like the fact it can print Cd’s as an extra bonus, PC world , Curry’s , amazon don’t have any in stock , they were selling them at a good rate of about £320 + postage , Anyone know of where I should go to get one at around this money, few other companies that are selling them for over £400 + delivery. I see from the xpres new catalouge that they seemed to have upgraded to a newer printer with an even higher cost. My Epson Stylus Photo R340 is great for photographic paper but I have poor results going onto transfer paper, Must be using wrong inks. Is there any other printers out there below the £ 400 suitable

    Thanks Tim

Cant beat an R1800, I use it for all my photography work, and it is good for transfers.
Just make sure you don’t use the gloss optimiser when you print else your plotter wont detect the registration marks

    Hi Tim
Have you tried Listawood Trading Supplies? They have them listed on their website at £349+vat. Others you could try are i-sub,or subli-nation,maybe?

    I have a 1400 A3 – Quality prints

If i was getting a printer for T-Shirt prints it would be the R1800 as you can put a dye sub kit on.

Other alternative would be OKI C5600 Digital Colour Laser Printer bought of Magictouch as all profiles of printer altered to give quality garment prints.

I’ve used the 1400 for garment print and tested but it’s only short term again this also depend on what garment media your using.

Dye sub is more long term, and can be reproduced onto a multitude of items.

Like the look of the R1400 , Would be good to go to the R2400 but I like the fact that the R1400/1800 can CD print also, My current printer prints Cd’s and it has been great, saying that the CD print has stopped working and its outside warranty. Don’t think I will be going Dye Sub just yet, and I was told that once you convert the R1800 for Dye sub you cant chop and change. Checked out those other suppliers, Most well over the £400 mark. It is mainly going to be for garment transfers and general printing, very little full photo quality. R1400 will prob do my job and there in stock with amazon.

1400 is not very economical for general printing i run a small HP alongside for general printing.
Only mainly use for customer design presentation much better on the A3. odd t-shirt prints and photo’s,
oh and when i forget to send to other printer.
