  • Help with CE3000-60 with CorelDraw 7 please !

Posted by DavidGSmith on 19 February 2012 at 19:07

I have just acquired a very good second-hand CE3000-60 Mk2 and have never used one before. I am trying to use it with my CorelDraw 7 on a Windows 7 Laptop and although it seems to communicate OK, the cutter moves about 30cm from the origin before it starts to cut. Can anybody please hep or advise me?
    Thanks

You could try and change the compatibility settings in windows.

what driver are you using if the windows print driver then you probably have a page mis match between the driver and corel, look at the print preview to confirm.

he did say it cut but in the wrong place

Corel 7 is not win 7 compatible, Corel X3 without the service packs is shaky.

I thought it was working OK. It seems to function, but the output to the cutter is not right.
Maybe I sould get a slightly newer version of Corel?
Chris, I am using the driver downloaded from Graphtecamerica.

Slightly newer !! Go on, spend some dosh and BUY the newest version – it’s worth it. Just charge your customers a tad more to pay for it.

What’s the difference between Home and Student version and Full version?

Go to corel.com – also, while you’re there, download a trial – might be able to fix/solve your cut problem.

I only want to perform basic cutting tasks so while I am sure it is the dog’s whatsits, investing nearly £400 for me needs some serious thought at the moment.
Was wondering if an older version would be win7 64 compatible?

I have only tried basic text and shapes and I think it is cutting the right size. Just that it starts from the wrong point. Around 20-30cm along the y-axis?

the driver and corel page must match else it wont print in the correct place.

Just tried cutting a circle and looking on Corel, if it were a portrait layout, the equivalent origin on the plotter would be bottom-left of the page on Corel.
    Does this sound right?

try downloading a manual for the plotter, you may have to set the origin point on the plotter itself. You would be wise to run through the plotter menus & set things up correctly anyway.

Might be an idea to introduce yourself in the hello forum as Robert has suggested as well.

Hi Martin, have done that and I think everything is set up as it should be. Although I am a novice so not 100%sure. I know that when I print a test from the plotter, it cuts the Graphtec logo OK and in the bottom corner as it should.

I have introduced myself too 😀
and may I thank everyone for their kind and helpful comments so far. I know I will get to the bottom of this with everyone’s help, so Thanks again !

just before you press the print button in the driver press the preview button does that show a different position of the object to be cut.

Hi Neil, that one looks OK, I might give it a go. Thanks for your time earlier – much appreciated!. I have been playing with my CorelDraw 7 and have sorted out the origin and orientation by playing with settings in the Controller. Just need to find a way to put a weed box around what I am cutting.

There are macros that will do weed boarders for you but V7 is a bit long in the tooth and X5 is a good price as mentioned in another thread.

Hi Alan thanks for that but I really don’t think X5 is for me. I am not a graphic designer. I only need to cut Text and basic shapes with my cutter so a basic cut package would be preferable. It just so happens I had Corel Draw 7 already and was hoping to utilise it.

OK but I’m not sure V7 will run VBA and VBA macros can substantially improve Draw’s features. If X5 is really not an option X3 suit your needs.

why do you need a macro to draw a box

  • Alan Drury

    Member

Chris, obvioudly you don’t need VBA to draw a box but with a macro you can draw a box with a definable offset around every object with one click or same around a selection of objects, I have also seen more sophisticated macros that effectively add a power weed and also nesting. I not saying you must have VBA just that it can offer more (useful) features to Draw.

I am making progress with V7. it has so far enabled me to draw and cut what I need, to weed I just place a rectangle, etc, around the area I need. Thanks for all your help. I may be back if I get stuck !
