Help, Summa S2 160T Paneling option
Posted by Gary Barker on 22 June 2016 at 16:05Hi All had a new Summa S2 T 160 installed, (CWE / Paper Graphics) one of the reasons we bought the machine was to cut long jobs, we are using the option, paneling, not opus paneling, for cad cam vinyls, the problem we are getting is its putting notches where it starts and stops, sometimes there very small some times there 3mm is anyone else getting this problem when they use it ?
Thanks Gary

Hi Gary
Although i dont have a summa, i do have a similar panel option with my graphtec
from the picture, it looks like a 3mm overlap.
if you move everything 3mm higher it will all line up.
we use it a lot when panelling for large wall/glass installs
gives an overlap to match intonot a solution but hope it helps

Sorry i should have claryfied
The notches are where the program thinks the panel starts and ends including the overlap
-
Hi Iain thanks for the reply, this is half way through the job its not an overlap, there is no joint in it, the image leaves are only about 20mm in size, some times there up to 3mm sometimes there 1mm,
thanks Gary

Who is doing the paneling, The software sending the data, or the cutter itself.
If its the software, what software is it? -
Hi Gary
sorry for stating the obvious but have you tried turning paneling off?
Also. When you say for running long jobs, do you mean your machine has the auto roll take-up system on it? -
Hi Rob, yes its fine when we turn it off, but we bought the machine because of some of the long jobs we run, 6, 8 and 10m long, we were told that the machine is perfect for that, and yes we do have the auto take up, but it needs to have the paneling on for that to work correctly.

I would talk to the people you purchased the machine from, I’m sure they would want to help.
I had a problem with the software overriding my machine’s settings and the menu command to turn off this override wasnt as intuitive as it should be within Summa Cutter controls.
Thats the only trouble when your machine turns up in a box with a cd and some allen keys, you cant troubleshoot problems with an engineer etc.

Don’t know if this will help.
I downloaded the manual.
There is an option on your plotters menu to reset all values to factory defaults.
The manual is a bit confusing about how you get there.4.3.1.14 Factory defaults
This option defaults all user parameters to factory default. -

thanks Steff, we have had 3 Engineers out, there all not sure if it can be stopped, thats why I was asking if its on all summa or just mine.
Thanks Gary

Hi, we have the same problem and setup, the dealers support here in Denmark came up blank, so we are stuck with running jobs no longer than max panel lenght(250cm) on our Summa..
-
Hi Gary.
Did you ever get to the bottom of this issue? We’re having similar problems with our S2 120 T series even with panelling switched off.
Thanks in advance.
Gwaredd.

Hi Gwaredd, no we didnt sort it, if we get the material running perfectly square through the machine its alot better with panelling switched on.

I have to admit, I’ve had use of a Summa D140 for maybe 18months- 2 years, and I’ve had nothing but trouble with it.
No matter what I or any engineer does, regarding panelling or longer runs, it constantly falls out of sync meaning I no longer trust it to do any sizeable job. Jobs either don’t line-up, slip in the cutter, won’t do a flex and a kiss cut in the same job (sometimes it will, depends what mood it’s in), overrides itself with cut settings (again, depending what modd it’s in!). The longest I do on it now is maybe 1.5-2m runs as any more and it’s too much of a risk to have to reprint if it buggers up.I’m sure there are lots of people who have used Summa’s for years (including this model) with absolutely no problems whatsoever, however given my experience with this particular one, I can’t say I’d be rushing out to get another!

What software is creating the crop marks and is the same software then sending the cut file to the cutter?
To work out if it’s a machine issue or a software issue try creating the same job in illustrator or coreldraw, use the summa plugin to create the crop marks, print the job and then cut using wincut.
I have seen a note in a summa manual to say that software panelling should not be used when using opos panelling so could be a software to machine conflict.
As has been mentioned above the summa a class machine is more than capable of running huge long jobs without a takeup and without panelling so I would probably turn it off…. or if there’s a specific reason you desperately need panelling it would be interesting to know why to see if there’s an alternative work around!
Cheers
Alex
