help setting up my apple macs & cutters please?
Firstly a big HI YA!! to everybody as this is my first message :lol1:
I have recently purchased a heat press, an Epson 1290 Printer with sublimation Bulk Feed Ink System, in which i propose to produce transfers to go onto caps and T-shirts.
I now need a vinyl cutter with Epos (Digital Alignment) so that i can align
the printed transfers up and cut shapes around them, say maybe 6 up on an A4 sheet with good precision.
I use an Apple Mac with os 9 operating system and Adobe Illustrator 8 to produce my Designs and hopefully my Vector outlines or paths to make my cutter templates, and so the cutter will have to work with this also.
I have no experience with cutters at all, but reading between the lines on various cutter spec sheets i think maybe the graphtec CE3000 40 with optical alignment would be ok, what do you think??
Any other suggestions gratefully recieved and a big thanks to anybody that can spare the time to replyAlso Just a note to Robert Lambie 😳 I have been trying to access your online shop for further info on the above cutter but i am having a problem selecting the rollover button for which cutter 🙁 It keeps disapearing, its also telling me i’ve selected letters instead of numbers for my Tel/Fax/Phone which i know i have’nt. i had that problem yesterday, do not leave spacers between numbers.

welcome to the boards mate. im sure you will find all the help you need here. good to see another newbie. 😛the problem with the contact forms has been sorted now, sorry about that. 😳 it was, like has been said, seeing the space between the phone code and numbers as a letter or something… sorted now.
graphtecs a good choice & if the smaller machines suits the size of your prints then great, but watch your not limiting yourself?
i dont mean with your contour cutting of prints, i mean, you now have the fascility to signs, vehicle graphics & much more. limited only by your width of cutter. but i suppose you could always tile the job.
the graphtec optical alignment has been reported as one of the most accurate on the go…i have emailed graphtec asking the questions you require about illustrator etc, i dont see there being a problem, but better let them confirm that 😉

Sounds like you’ve bought some decent kit there. As Robert has pointed out, it could be a tad limiting for the larger stuff, but for the price difference between what you have and the equipment that does the larger stuff, you’ve got a good starting point at a bargain price. 😀

Robert and Dewi your help and advice is very reassuring, as just starting up and spending large amounts of money on equipment can feel very daunting, this is why these signboards are so greeeeat!! 😛
I’m also tempted to maybe go up a size in cutter to the CE3000 60 as your prices and offers in your ONLINE SHOP cannot be matched anywhere, from what i can see.I’ll be in touch soon and thanks again guys 😕

There is some Mac software out there that will drive a range of cutters, some is OS9 only and some OSX.
Have a look at http://www.magisign.com and also Freesign (can’t recall the web address but you’ll find it and other references to sign software at http://www.versiontracker.com)
The main problem we have had is getting the right serial cable for the plotter – can be trial and error. Also if you have a new Mac without a serial port you’ll need a USB>Serial converter like Keyspan produce.
