Posted by Mark Reader on 3 July 2012 at 15:25Hi Can anyone help with instructions to replace my printhead i don’t have a problem with replacing head that looks fairly straight forward, it is the head cables that worry me and keying the head rank in?

What worries you about the head cable? Have you removed the old head yet? A lot of people say to replace the cable regardless but I have to disagree. As long as you are confident that there is nothing wrong with the existing one, leave it be. I’ve had head cables before that in my opinion have been faulty and caused a problem further down the line.

Hi guys, hope you dont mind me adding to this old thread as its on topic.
Im purchasing a used printer, had a deal done on a hp latex but they sold it from under my nose :shake: so next week going to look at a Mutoh 1614. He is the second owner that got it from a dealer refurbed, new head 2 years ago. He has cleaned it weakly and every year the dealer has changed the maintenance station which i believe is also called the capping staion?.
Anyhow runs fine but there is a nozzle out on the cyan. Ive been told that it doesnt affect the quality and that multiple nozzles need to go before you think about replacing the head. Is this true? and surely 2 years is not old for a head that has had normal volume of meterage for a 2 man sign company.
Any info would be great, as already agreed price incl onyx 11. Supposedly collecting monday. Just need to iron out worrying demons in my head 👿
thanks in advance

I agree that a nozzle or two shouldn’t make a difference to the print quality, particularly when using the wave technology that Mutoh does. The maintenance assembly is a consumable item that should be replaced every 12 months although I think that’s a little excessive. 18-24 months is fine and all the Mutoh’s I look after are testament to that.
I like how the current owner boasts that he carries out his daily maintenance every week!! 😀
Also, I would buy a used Mutoh 1614 over a used HP latex any day.

Hi, its me again  . Collected my mutoh 1614 and wanted your opinion on looking after it.
The owner has turned it off when not using it but it had daily use.
He has done a strong clean once a week
and hand cleaned around the head and capping station once to twice a week. Now i was on the understanding you should never turn these off and set it to automatic cleaning every 21-24 hours? No sure what strength of clean tho?.
So am i correct or should i carry on as the old owner although there may be days when its not in use.
thanks

I’ll check on our 1324 tomorrow but I’m pretty sure you can’t specify the cleaning interval on Mutoh. The power button the control panel is just a sub power so works as a standby more than an off.
Cleaning around the head should be done as often as possible. Preferably daily. Including the wiper.

Gone through the settings today.
So there is a cleaning mode, which can be set but the printer does need to be powered on, which leaves the fans and heater on. Doesnt sound very economical.
Maybe i will continue as the last owner and turn off. Every few days do a strong head clean and nozzle check to keep things flowing?
