  • help please with signlab 5 & gravograph vx2b?

Posted by Paul Franklin on 22 August 2007 at 14:47

Got a friend with a Gravograph engaraver that he runs off a really ancient looking pc with a green screen, but he has Signlab 5 for doing vinyl stuff.
I’m sure that Signlab 5 can be used to control this particular engraver directly.
Anyone got any suggestions of where to get information or know how it might be possible to set this up.

    Thanks

I use Engravelab for my engraving work and actually have the functionality to run a plotter/cutter from it.

The first problem you will encounter is all of the off-set calculations for various cutter tools and fill paths will not be available to you in signlab. If you are simply using a drag diamond and you have the correct machine driver then it will be able to handle the work.

The second problem may arise with the machine controller module. This takes the computer control signals and converts them into machine motion. You may have to check with Gravograph, who will probably try and sell you something new, or best bet have a chat with Graham at Rona Machines on 01992 899 255.

Its not the correct software for the job, but will emulate the basics.

I have a VX2b engraver and Signlab5. I actually use the Gravostyle engraving software as it came with the machine but I have been told that you can run the engraver on both Signlab and Coreldraw. However when I’ve tried it, it always engraves upside down or makes the home point different to the top left. Never been able to get it right and neither as Graham at Rona either. By the way he is on holiday until the 28th.
