    David,
Do you mean transfer tape, like for transferring vinyl graphics?
Or are you referring to masking tape, which can be used for sticking stuff or fine-line tape for striping?
    Transfer Rite

    R-Tape

    For masking & Fine-Line tape, I only buy 3M

We have always used any old cheap stuff in the past but we needed some quickly so we went down to the auto paints shop and got some 3M blue masking tape and it is fantastic.

We use the green 3M scotch 233+ at work. I haven’t run into any problems with it. Releases easily. The blue stuff is good too.

I buy masking tape from a local autopaint suppliers, if you buy 10 or 20 rolls at a time ask for trade discount. Better than buying at a diy store.

I ran out of last week and bought some cheap stuff from the garage down the road, never again. Spent more time cleaning off torn tape and glue than it took to do the rest of the work today. Get good stuff.

If you’re close to Birmingham, Manchester or Bristol, you could visit Stax. They sell a brilliant tape, SupaTape. Its 40p for 2″ x 50m and its brilliant for windows, vehicles, signs, you name it really. I buy it in batches of 12 or 18, but you can buy it in 6 roll packs. Very cheap, but very good tape.

Also, not usual that I recommend them, but B&Q are doing some excellent masking tape at the moment. Its very smooth, meduim tack stuff and works well on windows particularly. Not overly cheap at about £1.12 a 25m roll, but its a good stop gap if all else fails.

I bought some sellotape low tack tape good but eeexxxpppensive just to try mind you.
Don’t let your masking tape get damp ever (while storing) thats when you get the tearing etc when yoy try to use is usuallt throw it away if this happens and it doesn’t need much of a damp cold place neither to put it like this.

    Goop

Oh an don’t use masking tape for applying anyway get some Application Tape.

    Thanks Bill!

Just got a membership card for Stax, very expensive masking tape as we spent over £200 on other bits and bobs. That place is like B&Q on steroids! :lol1:

    Just to re-bump this:

I’m after the type of tape the wholesalers use to secure vinyl rolls when bought by the meter. Would the 3m Blue or green be similar to this?

Most suppliers that I buy from don’t use masking tape to secure the vinyl to the roll James. All the ones that I deal with use slit down application tape, if that’s what you are after then I know MDP supplies sell it at various sizes starting at 50mm wide.
