  • help needed please with roland CX24 cutter problem?

Posted by Phil Price on 11 August 2006 at 11:38

    Hi there,
I’m having a few problems with the cutting quality of my Roland CX24 machine.
The curved cuts seem really jagged although the nodes in the design are all nice and smooth.
Initially I thought it was a worn blade protector so I’ve replace that, but I’ve still got the same problem. I’ve also tried a brand new blade.
Can anybody help me with this problem?
    Many thanks,
    Phil

    Hi Phil

Have you had a really up-close look at the nodes, sometimes they aren’t as smooth as you think!

    Hi Lorraine,
Yeah I’ve smoothed them all right out…..I definatley thought it was me at first!!
Even if I draw a circle in CoreldDRAW and cut it, it’s still not perfect (you can still make out slight straight sections in the circle)
I’ve spoken to the supplier and we’ve done a factory reset and i’ve reinstalled the driver but it’s still the same.

sounds like it is the blade holder, not the blade.

had the same as your description last year, replaced the blade holder and all was sweet.

the little bearings inside the holder wear out or get clogged with dust, and they don’t let the blade rotate smoothly. That is why it cuts straight on a curve.

    hope that helps

    Hi Shane,
    You might well be right….
I’ve just tried a different blade in a different holder and it does appear to be better.
    Cheers,
    Phil

As Shane said, perhaps a new blade holder is needed?
I know I am sounding as tho’ you are daft, but are you sure all your nodes are round, not square? I don’t use Corel for design, so don’t know if there is a way it could mess about with settings like this.

Oops! Beat me to it! Glad its better.

    As Shane says.

I had this same problem 2 months ago.All you need to do is take the blade out of the holder, unsrew the end (so you can see the bearing) then blow out any dust & spray WD40. Job done.

Then it will be cutting like new.

Make sure you have the correct offset on the machine.

I’ve had this problem in the past and it was incorrect offset settings.

    cheers

Just spent the morning sorting out my CX24 as its been showing the same symptoms for at least a month.
After buying a new blade holder replacing the strip and using the wd40 still had it.
6 weeks ago my hard disk crashed and I had a new one fitted.
Set up all the software again never gave it a thought.
When I loaded the Roland Stika Software on for the drivers for the CX24
The advanced printer setup in windows had it set at low quality as a last resort set it to high and everything works perfect. Even with the old blade holder (Three Year Old) fitted.

    Just another thing to try.

    Regards

    Roy.
