Something different to think about, could give you some more ideas. I generly try to use letter style that have some sort of style if you now what I mean and as the teacher’s say at tech (in aus) dont be afraid to use panels. This is just something fast needs more work yet but it’s probly the oposit of what you are thingking of.

I like the look of these both guys, Never have thought about covering a section of the panel in black, might try it….

Anyone got any more suggestions and also, where do you take your level off on these cars??

an easy way to mark a level…

use the sill as your level or….
use the rubber moulding. this is what i use..
i come up something like 10inch from it and make a few marks.. then run a masking tape from almost one end of van to the other.. this gives you a straight & if you think its not.. stand back have a look.. then move it up down, whatever… once you think its in the right place.. size all your lines of text from the masking tape..

i think you will find if you run it off the moulding like i have said, you wont go wrong! 😉

    Sorry OT….

Steve what have you done to our vehicle outline? why are the lines so thick? What software are you using them with? 😮

Whilst you are on Brian , talking of the vehicle outlines, why are the outlines so inaccurate, and why do you include all the body lines on the file when most of the creases are a slight change in direction which doesnt really affect the lettering.

You do sell the line drawings for the purpose of sign making etc. but most people seem to like to work on a digital photo of the actual van, rather than trusting an outline drawing.

Is is not possible to “tweak” the file so the major body panel measurements are accurate rather than “looking correct” and allowing for the curvature of the van.

Do you digitise the outlines from a photo or manufacturer supplied drawing?

Thet are a good tool and a real help, but they could be so much better.

    Ouch!

Ours are the most accurate out there, we have everbody elses & I can say that for sure.

We generally use the manufacturers line drawings. Sometimes we use photos when drawings are not available.

For the past few years we have been veryfying measurements. It is never going to be possible to be 100% accurate. Any lines you don’t like you can delete!

We find most people use them for layout purposes & for producing visuals.

For £99 I & most of our customers think they are an invaluble tool.

We have people that have bought them EVERY year for the past 7 years, so we must be doing something right. I am sorry you don’t agree.

Oh & as far ad digital photos are concerned, we only use them if we have to. taking a digital photo of a van will definately give a distorted image. The larger the vehicle the more distorted it will be.

    Hi Gavin,

I Like what you have done, but have sugested a few tweeks to give you some food for thought.

You might want to move the “vehicle technician” bit up slightly, I’m not sure what the curves are like on this van.

    Brian,

Other than convert it to .jpeg, bugger all mate. I’m using Flexi7 Pro.

Are you using the EPS or AI files?

I am not sure if you can adjust the stroke width in Flexi, maybe Lorraine or somebody else does know? If you can you should be able to get them to look like the outline posted by Gav. IE with much thinner lines.

The AI files have a thicker line style than the EPS files, so it’s best if you use the EPS ones if they work. Older versions of flexi have problems with their EPS filter though.

The stroke thickness can easily be changed in the fill/stroke editor

    Go to VIEW>FILL/STROKE EDITOR

Thanks for the reply Brian, it was.nt meant to be an OUCH on your part.

We use them all the time also, they are a good tool. Just some times they can be more than a little out. It would be utopia to be able to trust them fully, especially when you can’t get hold of the actual vehicle to photograph and measure.

Sorry Tim, I am a tad defensive sometimes. If people let us know then we do correct vehicles. Did you buy one from us because I have no record of you on our database?
