  • help needed please with a 25m lightbox?

OK, got the job for a 25m x 1m lightbox. Well actually only a 2m & a 5m section will be illuminated. The rest is solid ‘silver’ – no light through, with only the names in translucent red.

I’m thinking about standard 6" deep box, pre-assembled sections & completed on site to the required length. Replace the opal it would’ve had with dibond and either route / laser the text out & back light through red acrylic. Makes for easy assembly & install (3 bodies).

I’m not nervous about doing this – it’s just that the largest box assembly I’ve done before this (full illuminated) was 8m. This is going to be a big puppy.

Thought about pan-folded, but given the irregularities in the building, getting good panel joins would be near impossible.

Thoughts, suggestings and comments all welcome.

Thanks for the kind words that sounded suspiciously like "you’re on your own mate!!" 😉 LOL

Just had a visit from the customer. He’s been thinking…….(WHY, do they do this!)

He’s seen something in Glasgow he liked….now it’s built-up stainless steel / acrylic logos. He’d better hurry up & finalise this, he opens in 6 weeks.

On the upside, that might even make my life a whole lot easier in the process.

If you are still looking at a light box why not go for a flex face as long as the fabric of the building can take the weight (would need a sub-frame if onto cladding) – 2 companies that might be worth a call is Signtec and Green Brothers both have been very helpful to me in the past on very large signs that i would normally walk away from.

Flexface would be my solution to a job of this size too, the only differerence is that I’d go to a trade only company like Universal for the box and Plastiweld for the digitally printed face skin (they would produce it sleeved ready for fitting into the box too.

    Either way good luck!

Got back quote from universal that I’d sent before customer went off in another direction.

They too recommemded a flexface from Plastiweld. About a grand for the box. Thing is it may have been entirely unsuitable as it is NOT to let any light through except in two designated areas showing ruby red text.

This is why I would’ve gone for di-bond panels with the relevant ones having routed out text/logos & ruby acrylic behind. C’est la vie. He’s wanting steel / acrylic logos now… 🙄

ps. And Universal HAVE dropped their delivery charges to £20. (was £30 for a long time) Whoo hoo! Appreciated! :thumbup2:

    Universal are far too epensive
    Plastiweld are far too expensive

Very easy to do a flaxface sign without electrics behind it and only illuminate the section (mod-edit)

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR REPLIES – info on illuminated fascias is no longer required. (Please see my posts above.)

The lightbox – or even any illuminated fascia has been changed by the customer in preference of steel / acrylic lettering.

    Thanks again
