hi phil, thanks for the info, i checked and they are both working, i contacted printmax engineer for info and he took me through various things, the conclusion at present is it is the encoder strip as it does have a couple of creases in, £169 +vat from print max, seemed alot for a strip of plastic, any thoughts on suppliers??, also the printmax engineer steve was really helpful, i do normally buy my parts there but it does seem a tad expensive, any thoughts?? maybe im really wrong

You could try digi-print supplies who advertise on the front page?

I would try and turn over the encoder strip… We did this on one of our versacamms about 3 years ago and it is still running strong(touching wood lol)

Encoder strips are terribly expensive for what they are. You can usually tell when an ecoder strip is faulty as it will cause vertical stepping in your print or cause the carriage to stop at random positions.

Have you checked the calibrations of the head at all?

hi, thanks for all the help and advise, i changed the encoder strip and it is printing a whole lot better now but it has not cured another problem i have, basically printing fine , nossle check fine, test print fine, then if i print a pictture of something very black it prints and then after about 12 inches into the print, the black slowly turns to a lighter black/grey, almost like its running out of ink, please can someone help, thanks

Hmmmm. Could be overinking from your profile? Can you think of anything that’s changed since it last printed nicely?
