  • Help Needed Cutting Reflective Cheverons

I have actually fitted reflective cheverons in the past but always had problems, ive got another job coming up in the next couple of days, so thought I’d ask for your expert opinions!!!

The first job I made I decided to size the chevrons using my vehicle outline CD cutting them on the plotter – how silly of my to have such faith in its precision – you only ever learn the hard way I guess. It tured out they were to big fortunatly. so I cut them to size with a Scalpel once In place………………………This is also how I did my second reflective job- the problem I have with this tecnique Is being that the vinyl is so thick Its difficult to get an acurate cut without either damaging the paintwork or not cutting deep enough into the vinyl and only penetrating the outer skin!

Is this just a question of practise or am I doing something drastically wrong – I did see Robs Demo ( Which was very usefull ) but cutting the chevrons down wasnt mentioned !

Would be gratefull of any comments

You could try making a paper (or thin card) template of the area to be covered. Then mark the chevrons onto it and cut your strips to size using this template. Tape the resulting strips together to enable an accurate starting point when fitting and then fit the strips one at a time. This is the method I used when I first started doing chevrons and it worked ok. Clear acetate sheet is good for making the ‘tracing’ of the vehicle bodywork. You can use application tape but watch out for it stretching when you remove it from the vehicle.

    thanks for that lorraine

    I see it was a late night 4 u! 😐

Also are there any demos on covering large areas of magnetic sheet so to get perfect finish, ie no bubbles/creases… with water or without, i tried both, done it dry in the end, but it took many times and materials 😳 I dont wanna waste time, at the same time i need top quality work 😀
    thanks
