help needed 1290 heads blocked :(
Posted by paulo on 30 December 2005 at 14:48Hi guys
been using my 1290 with sublimation bulk ink system. all fine till yesterday, the black in stop working, after over 40+ clean cycles still no joy, even tried taking the cart out and drawing some in through with a syringe to see if there was and air in the cart, nope ink is flowing nice.
Head must be blocked, as you all know that when you keep doing the clean cycles this wastes alot of ink, so the question im asking is “, should i try to get hold of some head cleaning carts??”.
hope you guys can help
hope you had a great xmas, and have to good newyear :lol1:

Windowlene works on the normal ink just switch the printer off when the cariage slides across then soak the cleaning pad then turn it on so it parks with the print head pressing the pad. leave for a while then run few cleaning cycles.
Think its the amonia that does the trick.
I discovered this here…..

Paulo same happend to me sent mine off to a printer specialist who could not shift it 🙁 He told me that new heads were £150:00 v.a.t. better off getting a new printer.

thats cheap for heads lol!
Honestly… a printer is a consumable.. throw it, the ink mechanisms are not like the big boys toys!
I often wonder about sticking small inkjets in re-sealable plastic bags to stop air getting in… am i mad or what
update: Just to clarify, an inkjet is a machine that is sold cheap to get money via cartridges and consumables. The big ink jets that sign makers use are well designed (and use epson parts), but £30 a printer is cheap these days and they don’t put the right technology in them to stop them breaking, so you end up buying more cartridges and more printers.
I have a store room covered in Inkjets, I am going to have to dispose of them, i think there is about 8 in there from 4 years use. Thats terrible in my view considering recycling and so forth. We now use a networked colourcopier and we are not looking back. Great machine

A lot depends on the brand of sublimation ink you are using. The first ink I used was notorious for clogging the heads, however I have used Artanium for a while without any clogging.
Before you buy a new 1290 look into the R1800 which is same print size as the 1290, there will be a bulk system in new year. This is an 8 colour printer so a lot depends on what you are printing as 8 colours could be overkill unless you are printing detailed colour photos.

Hi
I once ruined a 1290 – the heads were blocked and I spent 8 hours running the cleaning cycle.
That was the reward for using a cheap bulk ink system.
If the heads dont clear after 3 or 4 cleaning cycles then as previously mentioned try a different method.
You can buy cleaning carts for the 1290. I think I got some once from the US. Search the net.
Also, by running the standards Epson inks through can help.
Simply print a few decent size pictures using the Epson inks, leave overnight, then print using Epson inks the next day, if all is well, put the bulk ink system back on.If all else fails, a new printer is the answer.
I always run a spare 1290, and a couple of C86’s too.
I have learnt this the hard way!!!

Hi
Just had this same problem with a 1290, tried loads of cleaning techniques (including the Windolene method) as advised by supplier. Luckily it was still under warranty and have had it replaced.
Bit rubbish though if you only get 6 months or so out of a machine.
