  • HELP! fiat fiorino van – how deep are recesses?

Posted by Alison Falzon on 31 March 2005 at 15:09

    Hello all
I’ve got to come up with a design for a Fiorino Van. I’ve got the outline for it, but not physically seen the van.
I’m wanting text to run diagonally on the sides but it has to go over the small & large panels (like in pic)
Does anyone know if the recesses are horendously deep? What’s the best way to go over them without making the text look distorted? I tend to avoid going over recesses unless I really have to but I want to feel a bit more challenged!

    hi there
    few questions….
will you be fitting this dry or wet?
why does the text have to sit way up there out the road? i’m guissing an image or existing graphic?
    anyway…
this is easy for me to say i know… but… it should NOT be too much hassle.
if i was fitting it dry…
apply the first side by eye, move slightly to help avoid as much of recess as possible, e.g. between letters.
apply all the high areas, outside of recesses as normal. BUT!
watch not to apply the letters that bridge the recess.
now remove the app tape but when you get near the letters that bridge the recess tear the app tape so it is still on those letters and around them. once its all applied and tape removed. go back to the letters bridging gaps… carefully lift the part of the letter that would fall into the recess and with your thumb/finger fold it/work it down into the recess. then move onto the next one. there should only be a few that needs done.
when rubbing it into the recess do it firm.. when done. remove the app tape. now take a heat gun and heat the letters in the reccess very warm… as warm as a cup of hot coffee. dont hold gun directly on one spot or you will scortch the paint. just wave it gently over the area in question, it will warm up pretty quick. leave it to cool for 5 minutes and do the same again. job done 😉

    Hi
Thanks for your help. I’ll be doing it dry. The text isn’t going to be sitting there all on its own, as they also want phone numbers, company info and a graphic. But before I carried on, I just wanted to make sure I’d be able to do it! and that it wouldn’t look distorted

I usually use JAC 8-10yr vinyl. Do you think I’d be able to use that, or will I have to use cast vinyl?

    Many thanks,

    Ali

have never used JAC but if its a 8-10 year vinyl ide expect that to be fine.

    Hello Ali,

I own a Fiat Fiorino and have my graphics going over the recesses.
They are quite deep (approx 10mm) and are double ribbed which just adds to the fun!
I’m sure you’ll manage but it is quite a challenge!

    Regards,

    Gary
