Hello to all from a beginner
Posted by Lee Ballard on February 8, 2005 at 12:00 amGreetings all,
Looking at starting my own business initially producing basic signs and promo stickers from vinyl.
Have been reading the boards for a little while now and really like the vibe and atmosphere, so friendly.Planning on starting with a 600mm cutter and then who knows.(Already got Coral draw 12). Just to pick a make now, the boards seem an invaluable source in for this.
In the first instance this will hopefully supplement my main job but it would be nice to think I could make a reasonable living out of it eventually.
ANY advice would be gratefully received(and probably needed 😀 )
Anyway thats me.
Regards
Lee

Welcome Lee.
What line of work are you in at the moment?
As soon as you have any questions, fire away. Someone is sure to help.

Hi Andy and John,
Currently I’m an HGV driver(since being made redundant from management two years ago, wow doesn’t time fly), and since I work nights most of my post’s will be in the middle of the night. 😮

Hi Lee, and welcome.
I am usually posting in the middle of the night too, so we may be on together from time to time.
I am about half a day ahead of you lot in the UK, so your midnight is my day.
Cheers, and ask away.

Thanks for all the welcomes 😀
May have inadvertantly got my first commercial job (not bad as have no gear yet) doing the windows on the place I just brought some bathroom panels from.
They said to pop in to discuss when I’m in a position to possibly do it.Ok so a word I’ll be using soon is HELP 😀 as not a clue quite where I would start as even they don’t really know what they want!!!!!

Lee, when it comes to window signs, Dewi is the master 😮 😛
Seriously tho, ask away. Collectively there is nothing we, as a group, don’t know 🙄
Cheers, and well done.

Hi Lee
I too was made redundant from a management position that I held in the brewing industry 8.5 years ago. I decided then to set up my own business as a signmaker. Nearly 9 years later I am very happy doing the work I do, and now I couldn’t imagine myself doing anything else.
Good luck with your new career – sign making is very creative and satisfying. I can guarantee you will make a good living at it if you go about things the right way. 😀

Hi Lee,
I’m in the states so I am about 8 hours behind you. Between dsi and I we will either answer your question tomorrow or yesterday depending on who gets it first. 😀
