Hello ! Need Some Help With Acylic Letters….
Hi Guys,
Hopefully one of you can help… I`m looking to laser cut acrylic letters 1.5mm thick and attach to a number plate than has a vinyl reflective coating. Can someone point me in the right direction on what tape to use ? My plan would be to cover a 520mm x 110mm sheet of acrylic with the tape then laser cut the letters I need, leaving the letters with an adhesive/peelable backing.
Or would I be better using another method to mount the letters ? A glue, Adhesive etc ?

You need a medium tack paper application tape. Once laser cut, place the acrylic letters in warm soapy water, this will remove acrylic residue and the tape will be easy to remove.

Sorry thought you were enquiring as to which type of tape to cover the acrylic while lasering -
We just use ordinary clear acrylic tape on them, it does get a bit stringy though but seems to do the job… Always open to better ideas though?

I don’t know is the honest answer, A number plate does get some harsh treatment – environmental, carwashes etc. But acrylic tapes are pretty effective especially against other acrylics / polycarb. Could always go with VHB but costs go up dramatically…

Thanks Martind, Cost is not the main concern. This is only for a few project pieces for a car dealer.
What kind of VHB would be suited ?
