  • Hello From NEW England!

Posted by Joe Cieslowski on 9 March 2004 at 23:29

    Hi,

I found this site thru one of Roberts posts on the Letterville Bullboard…poked around a little and thought it would be fun to be a part of this sign group too.

I’m from East Canaan Connecticut…..western New England. Norfolk is to my East, Shefield is to my North, Salisbury is to my West and Kent and Cornwall are to my south….NEW England ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve been a wood carver since I was 9 and began my business in 1977as a full time carver. I produce relief carvings as art for peoples homes as well as signage. I’ve been involved with Lettrheads since 95 as there is no group of professional carvers to chum with….the talent out there is amazing!!!!

I’m looking foward to becomming a regular here to expand my knowledge and contribute when I can.

If you are interested in the rest of my story, you might spend a few minutes at my novice web site http://www.ctwoodcarvers.com

Warning……I am Putter Impared!!!!! I’d love to poat pics and such but I haven’t learned how yet… ๐Ÿ™

One last thing, Don’t believe anything Jillbeans says about me! ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Thanks for having me!

    Thank You!!!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

    What a warm welcome!!!
I can only get you some picks in a round about way…..Bob Gilland (sorry Bob, I’m sure I mispelled your name ๐Ÿ˜ณ ) made a post awhile back with pics from 2 meets. I’m in several photos and there are one or two shots of some of my little fun carvings done in maple and black walnut. They are in the pics from “Spring Fling” in GA. I’m the white haired/bearded guy with the light blue dennim shirt.

The other thing I can do is to send each of you a link to a portfolio page where someone else posted pics for me. I’ll try to get to that today.

I’m working right now on a 40″ crest for the copula of a local library…griffins, ribbons, sheild, crown and some dude in his pj’s ๐Ÿ™‚
I’m taking digital pics of the progress and when it’s done i’ll try to post something here. If the picks come out good, I’ll be writing an article on it for one of our trade journals.
Did Jill say I liked to talk?????? ๐Ÿ˜•
I told ya not to believe her!!!!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

    Thanks Again!

Fair is only fair Joe; I stopped counting how many times I have butchered โ€œsayingโ€ your last name. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ I just now end up saying, โ€œYou know, Joe Chisel-ski from Connecticut!โ€ ๐Ÿ˜‰

If you like this one and Rob is OK with it, Rob can just do a right click and โ€œsave asโ€ and upload it for use as the avatar. This one was taken while you were doing one of the seminars in Mars, PA during Jillbeans big international meet, 2002.

Email your email addy and I’ll send you a couple more links…..newer, better stuff.

    Thanks!

Hi Joe, and welcome. Nice work.

I had a holiday over there a couple of years back. Drove around Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont and New York State. I though that rural New England would be a nice place to live. Didn’t like Cape Cod much though.

I’ll be back one day, and am looking into a trip to Laconia Bike Week, but with my bike rather than a rental car.

    Thank You Johnchild,

My wife and I traveld a lot all over the states, BK (Before Kids) ๐Ÿ˜‰ . With my kind of business, we could have settled anywhere. We chose NW Connecticut on purpose ๐Ÿ˜€ . Real old New England towns. Haven’t changed much in 250 years. The original part of my house was built in 1755 by Capt. Edmond Dunning…..he became a cook for George Washington.

If you are ever out this way again, stop by and I’ll be happy to give you the “Tour”. I have quite a few Brits in my guest book.

    wow, nice work Joe.
I imagine it would be hard to fix a typo. Have you ever mis-spelt and had to start the job again from scratch??? ๐Ÿ˜ณ

    Jenny,

    Thanks and yup! ๐Ÿ˜ฅ I did it last year on a church sign…..spelled Episcopal (sp?) ๐Ÿ˜ฎ wrong on a 4’x6’x2″. Now it’s a 4’x6’x1 3/4″ ๐Ÿ˜€

The only other one was a double sided directional sign with an arrow…..I’ll bet you can guess what happened ๐Ÿ™„ . It’s a little thinner now too.

You should see the size of the eraser I needed to fix em….. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Not too bad for 27+ years…………

    Leeroy m’love…
if you want to know anything, JUST ASK.
I have had the pleasure of having both Joe Chips and Bill Riedel in my kitchen…not in the Biblical sense o’course, we were preparing for the Mars meet. We had dinner together at Good Ol’ Uncle Bob’s place, where they cook up a wicked ostrich burger. Both are great guys, both with more talent in their pinkie fingers than I have in my whole body.
And I get to see then BOTH at Dixie in 2 weeks!
    Love…JILL ๐Ÿ˜ณ
(am also pals with John Jordan…you orta know him!)

You know it’s much more fun when it’s gossip rather than facts Jill.

You get juicy made up bits. Far more interesting.

    Thanks guys!!!

Yes I know Bill Riedel quite well. We’ve traveled to many meets together and aside from his wealth of knowledge and skill…..that man is TIRELESS!!! When Bill and I met Jillbeans for the first time, we were on our way to a Pinhead Summit in Ohio, about an hour from Jills. He had me up early the next morning and raced to the meet which was held in a shop that was under the host’s home. We were so early that our host wasn’t even outta bed yet. ๐Ÿ™„

Leeroy, What Jillbeans said! ๐Ÿ™‚ Just ask!!!!! One thing you should know however, is that in the energy department, Jill is in the same league as Bill! Tireless!!!! She moves so fast that that dirt wouldn’t stick anyway!!! LOL……just be carefull of her “bedroom” eyes ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Thanks Again!

    Watch it, Chips.
    My Mom will be there!
I don’t care what stories folks tell about me, really!
(it only adds to my mystique)
But my mom will paddle your butt for talking about “her baby”!

I was so busy painting panels that I only got in 1 “butt” shot.
    Oh well.
Mom had a blast and so did I. We are both plumb tuckered out tho.
As always, great to see you makin’ chips and havin’ fun.
