Hi Tom – welcome to UKSB ๐
I’m interested in chemical etching as well but haven’t done much of it – just messing about.

Hello Neil,
A few different ways to do it, best results for me is the dry film photoresist method.. the others have their limitations on detail, depth of etch & quality… IMO

I’ve tried the print n peel and the spray on stuff. Both worked fairly well for me but timing seems to be critical and with the pnp I’ve had areas that didn’t stick too well. The spray on stuff began to break up after a while in the bath – I think I didn’t bake it long enough! So many variables.
I do actually have some dry film photoresist here but haven’t got arround to using it yet. Is it very sensitive to normal levels of UV (daylight?) or do I need a special bulb. I’ve read so much about this and folk seem to have different experiences/advice.
Certainly an interesting craft.

Never tried the print and peel or spray on and Iโve never heard of them to achieve any great depths or quality before breaking down especially in a โbubbleโ style etching bath.. Youโre right to many variables which unfortunately turn it into a science..!
With the dry film, itโs very sensitive to light.. To run this system properly you need quite a bit of kit and space: dark room; exposure unit with a UV Bulb etc etc.. Iโve never had any issues running this system really, only when people think they know better and try and cut corners..!!
