    Hi all.
The bottom plate on my press has a Teflon sheet on it, which covers a rubber? pad.
The problem is that the rubber pad has become brittle and cracked.
Any idea what I can replace it with please? Neoprene ? 😕 😕

your supplier of the heat press should supply you the right thing, if its an adkins press, the service is very good direct from them

Neoprene will work ok, but only as a temporary measure, or even a few mouse mats stacked up, that will be fine, but you really do need to get the correct size and thickness pad, but that will sort you out temporarily, mouse mats should cost like 50p from local poundstretchers etc.

i have some 8mm silicone sheet i got to make up some different size pads for my small heat press.
i wanted it for panels surrounded by deep seams, sleeves and to isolate zips etc.

it is the same sponge silicone with a smooth face on both sides as is on most heat presses – although it’s a white/cream – not the usual clay/red colour.

what size is your press? i will have a 38×38 definitely, and maybe a 38×50, but would have to check.

let me know if its any good for you.

Thanks for all the good advice 🙂
I’ve sheets of Neoprene here, at different thicknesses, which is why I was asking. But it does seem to have a different make-up to the printable mouse mats.

Mickey, I do have a 38×38 press, and thank you very much for the kind offer If you could point me to a supplier though, that would be great.:thanks2:

If its not the fabric covered neoprene there may be a possibility of it melting, I’m not sure if it would or not, I’m just imagining putting raw wetsuit material in a press, I’m guessing it wouldn’t but wouldn’t like to test it,
Cover the neoprene you have with a sheet of fabric and you should be fine I would say.

neoprene ‘should’ be ok – as when i was sourcing sheets i looked at rubber, neoprene and silicone (because i was being quoted £180/m2 for silicone at 8-10mm)

if you don’t go higher than the normal 170° range – it seems neoprene is fine up to around 270° and down to -50°

but silicone is from -150° to 559°

the cheapest i could find anywhere is here – on special offer for the 8mm silicone sponge.

    http://www.samco.co.uk/#SPECIALS

it is 1mx0.6m, and with delivery and vat works out around £40.
but you will get 2 38×38 pads and enough to make different shapes for odd items etc.

Thanks for your input Steve. It isn’t fabric covered, and it’s a much closer cell foam-more for wet suits I think.
It does stand the heat OK,but don’t think it’ll last long.

Thanks for the link Mickey, I think that’s the route I’ll be taking. I appreciate all your help. 🙂
