Posted by John Cornfield on September 13, 2005 at 8:43 pmCan you print on to fleece material with a heat press?
Just want to check before we give it a try.

Hi John
Do you mean putting a garment film on to a fleece. I did one 2 years ago using a ‘flock’ garment film from Victory Design.
It was a top that I did a test on with our logo. Top still looking good after 2 years.

Yeah Lee,
The cut and apply flock type lettering.

Yeah, it works fine. Just cut in the normal manner in reverse and apply with the heat press. Give Victory a call.

When pressing onto fleece make sure you raise the area to press and also make sure you have a good clothes brush to brush the flatened jacket up. Another place that you can buy the flock from is http://www.xpres.co.uk They are a really good supplier.

Well said Janine, thats what I was going to point out. I cut some cardboard the shape of the logo and put it under the fleece before pressing, then like you say give it a brush to bring the pile back up.

Good tip Janine & Dave, I hadn’t thought of raising the print area-very frustrating when pile gets flattened.
John, if printing to a padded fleece, watch that the press temperature is not over-hot, as it will melt the padding, or at the least make it feel a bit ‘hard’.

I think we are going to have to have another try at printing on fleeces? When we tried it on a few samples a while back it did not adhere properly at all and didnt look too good? After a short while and after washing, it became quite easy to peel away? We were not happy supplying printed fleeces when we were not 100% happy/confident with the adhesion on the fleece pile. 😕
I know this topic has been discussed on here before …. you could always do a search?

I have never had a problem with applying flock to fleece. The only problems is when the fleece is flattened by the heat press, but there are lots of ways to eliviate that problem. The first is, if it is a small area, you use a cap press. The second is by raising the area to be pressed (fabric mousemats are good to cut and use).

hi all
a little tip get hold of an off cut of fleece place this on the transfer you wish to apply. so you have fleece to be printed, transfer and then off cut of fleece material upside down this helps eleviate the pile flattening, just add a little time to the pressKev
