  • Heat gun vs Torch flame

    Hi guys

Just a question as I might have a small problem on my hands. I always see the Americans using the blow torches for heating the vinyls where I think we all tend to use electrical heat guns. I have some graphics I might need to fit but will be outside and am not sure if my 50m extension cable will reach a power supply 😕

what are my options or should I say what is my best option 🙄

    cheers

    Warren invest in a generator.

Just make sure it has enough output for a heat gun or any other tools.

Also I would go for a 240v / 110v output – good investment if you ever have to go on location where 110v should be used.

    Tim.

I`m with Tim here. I bought mine off flea bay and has paid for itself many times over. From memory mine only cost less that £100.

    Cheers

Isn’t it a shame Taymar don’t sell the gas powered heat guns anymore.

 I actually didn’t think of a generator :lol1: not sure if it is worth my while yet to get one, this is also a small job but could be a possible future investment.

I wonder what I will do in the interim?

    cheers chaps

I have often thought of getting a gas torch for back up,
it would obviously need to be quick spark ignition and trigger operated,
and ideally work from calor, as this can be bought in small cylinders.

can any one anyone recomend a suitable make?

I carry a gas torch in the van in case its needed
not too reliable is it does turn into a flamethrower when you least want it to

    Warren,

I bought a generator few weeks back now – I got a 2.8Kva one and it runs my heat gun 100%
Since getting it i’ve used it on 3 occasions as I’ve been more flexible with the fit jobs.
One was in main dealer where normally i’d hog an area near to showroom and run a lead, I did a brand new van last week and was able to do it in the compound without any interruptions as I used generator..

My own views are you shouldn’t be without one!!!

I carry a plumbers gas blowtorch in the van.

Comes in very useful when you can’t reach a power supply.

    Got mine from B&Q.

Oh yes and invest in a box of matches, they’re a must 😉

We use both…I like to use the flame as I’m fitting because it directs localised heat to a small area very quickly. I never post heat with the flame though…Burns too easily (as I’ve found out :-))

    this is what I use. . .
plumbers gas torch. . . no need for matches. . totally automatic. . . . with adjustable flame. . but be very very careful it gets stupidly hot. Personally I’m also thinking of getting a gene. . . as the potential to do damage with a naked flame is too high. .. especially with my sausage fingers !

What about using a propane gas tourch that they use for wrapping pallets?

It runs off propane and the head is designed so theres no flames coming out the front of it.

Would be ideal…but where do you get them!

Totally unrelated to torches but I had to laugh at this:

I have lorded my long slender fingers over those of my sausage-fingered brother for years!

I was at a signmaker’s gathering last month, watching these guys use a torch. Nearly frightened me to death but they were pros at it. I would have singed my hair off.
