Searched over google to see whether if i could find any information about SOLVENT INKS and their health-effects, or side effects. From what it smells, e.g. Lyson inks, i feel like weird. Does that happens to anyone else? Is it just me?
I am using tiara opal machine, it smells like a dog 🙂 Would it cause any trouble to peoples in our place do you think ???

I’m using ‘ActivaSol’ and the fumes can get a bit ‘heavy’ in the print room (even with the extractors going).

It is a solvent base, so will have some COSHH data somewhere if you requested it from the manufacturers / stockist.

I think the really nasty stuff is banned in the UK (Cyclohexadine (?) & somethingnastydine) – besides melting printer parts – they melt brains…and generally cancinogenic!

    COSHH for INK

dont think it will give you any long term damage if you have adequate extraction …..ive been using screen ink for years not done me any damage 😉

yes, the smell of the ink should not be consumed… JV3 has an outlet fan on the back that allows you to redirect it to a filter box (or an wall with a 4 inch hole in) 😮

I know you guys are joking and what not. But I think I’ve been coughing a tad more due to the amount of time I spend near the printer. This won’t be the case when we move anymore but I think the inks do have an affect on your breathing etc. My mum walks into our room with the printer and gasps everytime for air.

Jason. I am not joking, solvent ink fumes give me a headache after only a few seconds.
I also collapsed after the uk sign show earlier this year, (halls full of solvent printers on display, no extraction) some may say it was the alchohol, but it trust me it has never happened before or since…..

Although I would not quote any specific immediate effects from solvent inks, I did get occasional headaches and and soreness in the nose. These effects do not occur since changing from Activasol ink to EcoSol Max on my Cadet. We also no longer get the "cor, you can get high in here for free" comments from customers.

Actually – come to think of it. I have had a slightly wheezy chest which I can trace back to a "summer cold" I had in October 2005. Ever since then I have had this slight ratttle in my chest (especially at night). It’s not serious enough to concern me but the timing of this condition does in fact coincide with the fact that I bought my Cadet printer back in September 2005.

It does make you wonder 😕
