  • Having trouble with cutting vinyl flock (with pics)

Hi everyone, making things from vinyl is a bit of a hobby of mine, and ive been asked to make some school emblems out of flock.

Here is the design im trying to cut out…

I think my problem is with the wheels spinning on the material, but it might be something else. Even though im only cutting at speed 10, if i cut lengthways or sideways if i rotate the deisgn i get the same effect. The different parts of the cutout seem to be overlapped.

My plotter is a Creation CT 900 and i have winpcsign software and signlabs, and am getting the same result in both. I have the pressure set to 80, and have done lots of playing arround with the depth of the knife.

Has anyone had this problem before?

    Thanks for any help!

I HAVENT CUT FLOCK IN AT LEAST 14 YEARS. 😕 SO I COULD BE WRONG HERE… BUT… FROM MEMORY THERE IS A CERTAIN ANGLE OF CUTTING BLADE REQUIRED AND THE MACHINE SHOULD BE SET TO CUT IN TANGENTAL MODE. THIS IS BECAUSE MOST NEW CUTTERS THESE DAYS CUT USING A DRAGGING ACTION OF THE BLADE. TANGENTAL WILL CUT A LINE, LIFT, TURN DOWN, CUT NEXT LINE, LIFT, TURN, DOWN CUT AND SO ON… AS I SAID, BEEN A LONG TIME BUT THOUGHT IDE MENTION IT.

    sorry about the caps 😕

oops, probably not anything to do with my post above, i thought it was snagging the letters, but the media appears to be moving or something. 🙄

60 blade if you got one and slow your cutting speed right down, I run mine at 4 which is a pain on big jobs but i know i’ll only need to do it once

    Good luck

still having the same trouble even with 60degree blade, think its all down to the wheels not getting grip 🙁 Ive wasted nearly all the flock just trying too and it wasnt cheap 🙁

I use a 60 degree blade and cut flock at 20cm a second no problem, how much blade is sticking out?
as it might be to do with varying thickness in the material also.
80 is a little light for flock I cut my flock at 100+ depending on blade sharpness, even with a brand new one I cut at 100 gms, it has to cut through the backing, and the flock itself so more force shouldnt hurt.

i think the motors are possibly stalling because whole loops are misplaced, or the material slipping.
as the material goes in and out does it distort or twist ?.
or do you hear it click or strain during parts of the cutting ?.
