  • having problems sourcing a light blue reflective vinyl?

Posted by David Shinn on 23 April 2005 at 11:14

    Hello everyone!

I have a job to letter six vans for a company that is doing some subcontract work for Transco. They already have a few vans that have been painted and lettered, and the decals have been cut out of a pale blue reflective vinyl. I would describe the colour as almost lilac.

I have drawn a blank regarding where to source the vinyl, both from the customer and from the suppliers I normally use. Does anyone have any idea where I might obtain this from? The reflective vinyls in my swatch books are only available in a dark blue.

    Thanks for any help.

    Regards,

    David

Mister, you look like a spaceman in that suit!
Anyway, I have gotten oddball colors in reflective made by Avery in the past.
You might want to look at one of their charts.
    Sorry I wasn’t more helpful.

    Hi David,
it’s possible that the vinyl has either been specially made for the customer/supplier or that it has been screen print flood coated with a translucent ink to give the colour they needed.
You could have this replicated by another screen printer but on a short run it might prove expensive.
    Regards,
    John.

Hello and thankyou for your replies.

Firstly, Jillbeans, you simply don’t want to see me without my mask, I promise you!

John, I work next door to a screen printer, so having some white reflective flood coated with a transparent ink is something I will consider if I can’t get a ready made colour. In the meantime, I will get hold of an Avery colour card and see if they have anything suitable.

    Excellent advice. Thankyou.

    Regards,

    David

Ive just looked in my Hexis catalogue and they supply coloured overlays for reflective vinyl, it might be worth ringing them about it

Jem’s answer is the best option – that’s what the hexis transparent films were really designed for. Trouble is they were discontinuing that range last time I spoke to them so may not have much/any left by now 😕

Interesting to know that thanks resh ! They are only a short distance from me and I’ve never heard of them. But looking at their site it seems that they do keepa transparent range from Ritrama.

Welcome to the boards by the way :welcome:
