  • Having problems releasing vinyl from backing paper

Posted by Brian Carey on 4 December 2012 at 20:42

    Hi all,
recently i have been having problems with getting vinyl to release from the backing paper, could this be due to the cold weather?, should i be storing vinyl and application tape in a warmer environment? I notice the vinyl is brittle too and tears easy from the cold.
Im also using a new batch of application tape, i normally use medium tack and its fine normally, unless they sent me a low tack batch by mistake!
    thanks Brian.

If often helps if you turn the taped vinyl over so that the taped side is resting on the bench and you peel the backing paper away from the application tape rather then try to lift the tape off the backing paper. Done this way you should also ease the backing paper off the tape by rolling the backing paper away from the tape leaving the vinyl in place on the tape

Ring your tape supplier with the code off the roll and ask.
You must have a bit of old tape left to compare with..
Damp affects some tapes more than others. Nothing worse than letters being left behind half way across a panel

hi all,On our last order we were supplied low tack instead of medium tack,
we really struggled with it trying to get the graphics off the backing paper, but
since the weather has got colder its now impossible to use.having said that when you do get the vinyl fitted the tape seems to have a good grip on the substrate.
hi chris, you said in your post about checking the code on the rolls,?we have 3 different brands in stock and i cant see any codes on any of them.!!
so im at the mercy of my supplier about what im getting. john
