  • has anyone used matt black wrapping?

    Hi All

I have just received my 3rd request for a full wrap using matt black in the last month 😮 The first 2 got scared away with the price so maybe 3rd time lucky.

What I want to know is does anybody have any experience using matt black wrap and what is their opinion on it? I saw some guys wrapping with it at the show yesterday but did not ask them about it and when I got home I had another enquiry in my inbox for it , Doh!

I want to know if it is more for short term application or will last as I seem to think it won’t look so good for a long time and would scratch easily?

    any body have any comments?

    cheers

    Warren

I remember seeing that now, I think I will try the 3m stuff but will get a price first and see if I get the job.

I was more interested in warnings I should give the customer over durability etc, don’t want him coming back in a year saying it now looks sh1t and I didn’t warn him that matt does not last.

    cheers

Hi Warren, I saw those guys too – didn’t it look good on the big Jag? I was asking them about it & they were using Avery wrapping cast vinyl which they assured me was very durable and shrugged off dirt, finger marks, etc. We’ve decided to wrap our van in it before everyone does (it’s got FAD written all over it, hasn’t it). The wrappers name was Tim and you could probably get him at Totally Dynamic 0870 446 0775

    Hi Warren,

I have done a couple of Matt wraps now and Avery 900 Matt is the way forward as recommended by others but your fears of durability are justified as Matt vinyl does mark & scratch easily but for special occasions it really looks the business, especially when Mirror Chrome, Reflective or even Gloss black cut vinyl details are used as well.

Gloss black on Matt Black!! Yes… it can work really well if used with care. When I was working for Someone else (one of, if not the top vehicle wrapping firms in the UK) we wrapped a GT3 in Matt black then put the GT3 logo and side stripes on with Gloss black. Knock up some samples and see for yourself.

My only other comment is that most people who have seen the Matt wraps have usually seen them on wicked cars like Porsche, Ferrari’s & Lambo’s etc. I was going to wrap my van Matt Black but I went off the idea as I wasn’t sure if a van could deliver the same "WOW" factor as the supercars do automatically.

    Cheers

    Hi Darren

Thanks for the info, it was the Avery900 that I saw at the sign show but my fears are as you suggested, I had 3 enquiries in the space of a month for matt black wraps and after telling them about the long term effects with the cost of doing it they soon changed their minds :lol1:

I do agree about the gloss on matt though 😉

    cheers
