hanging blanks for scaffoldingPosted by Jim McManus on 28 February 2007 at 16:04Hello everyone. Does anyone know of a supplier of blanks suitable for hanging over scaffolding poles. Could probably make something, but just wondered if there was anything readily available. They should be around 300 x 400mm in size. Whats it for Jim? Try some of the health and Safety Brochures as they have stuff suitable for scaffolds or is it just blanks you are looking for. I though it was for scaffold tags when I first looked at the post but they are a lot smaller than the size you want.

Hi Martin, it’s for "scoffolding incomplete" signs, just like the ones in the health and safety brochures. They seem to made of rigid PVC with a couple of folds to the top to create a hanger. I could router forex and create a similar thing, or just fabricate "hooks", but I just wondered if there was a supplier of the blank folded units.
Martin good to know you are in Fife, should get together sometime if you like, I’ve probably come across loads of your work as I am doing the rounds. Pretty sure you could teach me a lot to! I’ll gladly buy the coffee.Cheers, Jim.

Jim, what about using HIPS rather than forex, you could probably form a hanger just by scoring it with a stanley blade but not sure how long they would last, I have bent it as well using a bit of heat so you could probably form a hook by heating it round a bit of bar.
Jim even though I haven’t been working for quite a while there are still quite a few of my jobs knocking about. Don’t know about teaching you anything, well I could certainly teach you how not to be successful in business !!! I don’t have a problem getting together anytime that suits you, it always use to frustrate me because most of the signmakers in Fife won’t talk to each other which I could never understand. Coffee would suit me fine as I drink bucket fulls of the stuff!!!!!!!!!

Martin, Time for my first lesson, I don’t know what HIPS is, or where to get it! Can it be supplied cut to size?
I know what you mean about the Fife signmakers, in my limited experience I have found that some do not like to give too much away. I suppose that’s understandable up to a point, but I’m not going away so I always believe it is better to help each other out in any business. One good turn deserves another, and one day they will need a favour.
Anyway, sure we could have an interesting blether.
 Take care,Jim

Jim HIPS (High Impact Polystyrene) is the white normally glossy looking plastic that a lot of health and safety signs are printed on. About a mil thick, can be bought from any plastics supplier. Europoint and the like sell it as well but you may need to buy a minimum number of sheets, how much do you need as I may still have a few odd bits lying about. As for cutting it is easy to cut with a stanley knife or even a decent pair of scissors.
