  • hanging banners from vertical seams

Posted by Jayne Marsh on 17 November 2005 at 11:22

I seem to be having a bad week here 😀 I have another question for you all.
I have been asked to produce 9 off printed banners which are to be fixed to a wall. The banners are 1m x 2.8mm long and will be weighted at the base so they hang evenly. Now here’s the catch, I am only allowed to attach the banners to a vertical seam that runs the full length of the wall. How would I do this? can anyone recommend a lightweight material that will hang well once printed and does anyone know someone who can print this sort of thing?
I presume the banners are to lie flat against the wall, although I am awaiting confirmation on this.
All help appreciated as usual 😀

    Sounds a bit tricky Jayne,

Are these going in or outdoors? If in, shouldn’t be a problem, outside they’ll flap about I would have thought. Could they be printed on mesh? This presumably would depend on the wall colour….

I’m not sure why I’m replying really, cos I dont even do banner printing (but it’s an interesting question)

    Good luck!

Hi Lorraine, they will be indoor banners, i was hoping to get them printed on some sort of lightweight material as there is only one vertical seam per banner,
I dont print banners either so would have to buy them in

Not sure how you would fix these to a verticle seam (up an down) because you would have issues with weight certainly. be much easier if it was horizontal

Plenty of fabrics now days that are light weight, but the trick is getting one with low curl properties. That is, they don’t curl in around the middle of the drop.

We have some products here but I am not sure who manufacturers them, as they are imported by a small company out of sydney.

One is an acrylic coated banner that has a matt finish. I have used this a lot, and it is excellent. There is a new polypropelene on the market here in December that is sold as a ‘low curl’ banner/poster material, designed for solvent printers. Saw a sample at the sydney sign show. I have ordered a roll, but again, I think it is out of China. Rob may have a better idea.

The other option is to print it to flag/silk material. You can get some brilliant results from the new generation stuff out now.

Sorry can’t give you brand names tho.
