  • Hanging banners from lamp posts.

Posted by John Lloyd on 14 December 2010 at 15:34

I’ve been asked to quote to supply the poles and banners to hang from Lamp posts by our local Chamber of Commerce.

Pricing for the poles and banners is the easy part. The hanging part seems difficult, in that the only equipment I can seem to find that can be used is a flat bed mounted cherry picker as it is road legal, (The furthest lamp posts are a mile a part.) This is a massive piece of kit and would cause all sorts of problems on a busy road where some of the lamp posts are. Is there an easy answer to the installation of the banners on the lamp posts? Do I also need to sort out long term public liability insurance in case they fall down or is that the Chambers responsibility.

I’m at the point of turning the job down due to the installation headache, has anyone done this before? Can anyone recommend a hire company for the cherrypicker based in the Surrey area?

    Thanks.

I do know of someone who might be able to assist you on this and knows a fair bit of how to proceed and some of the ‘gotchas’ and need to know.

His name is Paul Headon from Brushwood / Banner Flex Europe

John, can’t help with a hire company sorry but you will need an operator for the cherrypicker as well unless you have your own licence. The other thing that would be worth checking is that you are actually covered insurance wise to do the install. Could be wrong but I thought you needed a special insurance policy to carry out work on the public highway.

As fo liability much the same, I would have thought if you installed them you would be responsible.

The council would never allow something like that round here but they have christmas decorations up all over the place :lol1:

    http://www.smartplatforms.co.uk/cherryp … INING.aspx rentals charge abour £100 per day+ insurance and fuel.
Contrary to what martin says you do not need a license to operate one, having been given instructions on how to use it is sufficient, though most firms and councils will require an ipaf cert, smartplatformrentals also do the course, and not that expensive,
