Handpainted Scroll: Killeevan Church Of Ireland
Posted by Harry Cleary on 28 November 2007 at 12:29Just finished this torturous job, hand painted scroll and lettering. The point of the arch was 40 ft off the ground and because the ground and seating was all over the shop, I could only scaffold part of it…….ballet dancing on a 3 section ladder is no fun!….and the plasterer should be taken out and shot with balls of his own crap plaster! 😀 😀 But the customers are over the moon with it.

Lovely…and right in time for Christmas, too.
Your grandchildren’s children will be admiring this one day.
Church stuff seems to last forever.
Love….Jill -
My Dad did the previous one in 1957, I found a matchbox in the rafters with his name on it and an old penny……..and a list of his children’s names at the time….there was three on the list…..he went on to have 13!!! so the matchbox mightn’t have been big enough… 😀 😀 I put it back and added a new one…..would be a nice thought to have my son or grandson find them.
I love that tradition of leaving time capsules on jobs like this. Anybody else do it? -
I love it…I wouldn’t know where to start with a job like that….lovely stuff

Very nice Harry, as Jill says it will be there for many many years to come.

Great work Harry, love the scrollwork and the idea of the time capsule.
I know how you feel doing this type of job balancing with one leg off the ladder, did one about 2 years ago. No where near as complicated as this but high none the less. -

That’s a sweet bit of writing Neil……There’s nowhere to hide on writing like that……excellent! 😀

lovely job 😀 😀
and what did you leave (?)
I stripped the wallpaper in my house to find my Papa’s name and a message…..He left messages for 50 years and is now 94 [or something] 😀 😀

I couldn’t find a matchbox, so I left a tin box that used to have mints in it, in it I put a photo of the family, a few coins, a newspaper cutting and a note asking the finder to contact my family and show it to them.
Writing on walls behind wallpaper is a tradition here too, we used to have to line up to be measured and our home house has a record of all our heights at different ages. It is strange to look at the mark and imagine yourself at 4 ft 😀 😀

looks really good Harry and I love the match box idea, 😀
