This is a little more complex than the salmon 😉

It’s 22" in dia. White pine, of course.

    Hope you like it….
    Thanks,

    Joe,

    Hi Joe,
Fantastic piece of work as always, are the letters raised off the face?

    Thanks everyone,

Pat, the letters are incised. The lighting for this shot was very low and from the right. I have a slide series of pics that I took on vacation in Maine in a town with a lot of nice carved signs. I got up very early in the morning to get the shots (to avoid traffic and people). This created the same lighting situation as this. When the shots were developed I got the same effect that you see here. I also believe that the changing light and it’s effect on carved signs is one of the reasons that they can really attract the eye like nothing else.

    Thanks Again,

    Joe,

Beautiful work Joe, love the colouring on this piece set against the dark stained border. How many hours does it take you to produce something like this once you’ve got the concept / design sorted ?

    Thanks Everyone,

The carving on this design goes pretty fast…..about 6 hrs. There is a large area that has no details. The main carving just goes through the center. The ribbon was a little over an hour. The lettercarving and staining took another 4. Coating it out and assembly about 3. 14-15 hrs I guess.

    Thanks Again,

    Joe,

Brilliant s ever joe… top notch stuff mate! 😉

i love carving, find it very calming. ive given it a go a few times, not in a long time now though. i have a full set of proper carving chisels needing put to use again. 😕 :lol1:
one day soon im gonna try something using sign foam, thats gotta be much quicker. the stuff i did in the past was not signs though.
i once carved a man sitting on a fence which turned out nice, (well i thought so :lol1:) i never painted it… just gave it a coat of varnish.

anyway… enough of my babble… love your work mate. thank you for taking the time to show us all your work…

    Thanks again everyone! 🙂

aj, I started when I was 9 (1956). I was in scouting and our monthly magazine had patterns for carved kerchief slides. I took to it pretty quickly.
I started carving for dollars in 1975. Went full time in 79.

I’m going to start another post wit a pic of my first relief carving done in 75.

    Thanks again,

    Joe,
