guilded foam anyone
Posted by Terry Bull on 6 November 2004 at 00:24Has anyone guilded onto foamex?
I plan to cut some letters out of 10mm foamex, about 9″ tall route and round over the edges sand , then guild them
Customers existing type face is so wacky that i could hand cut with a jigsaw
but they want them in a bright goldWhats your views
Thanks

Not actually done it Terry but have you thought of slapping a bit of frog juice on the foamex first. I believe this make the foamex receptive to paint, size etc
Oh and since you will be gilding you could lightly key surface before the frog juice especially if its the gloss foamex

Terry I’m not sure what foamex is,
but I’m certain that it could be gilded if it is properly primed.
Hopefully Steve Broughton will see this!

Just got some spec stuff from frog juice:
Substrates:
Frog juice will make all PVC board and most vinyls enamel receptive, to all solvent based lettering enamels. Frog juice can be added to lettering enamels at a ratio of 1 part frog juice to 5 parts of paint and painted on all substrates to increase adhesion…. It will make any vinyl that is designed for plotters enamel receptiveThis is an old A4 sheet that Victory supplied with a Tel No 01246 570 570 if you need techi advice on frog juice. Think I got at the Sign show moons ago.

That was one of Dave’s good days :lol1: Terry so I was in the garden when you rang mate, finishing putting up me shed, I tried ringing you back but got no answer, I usually put down a base coat first when gilding foamex, I use an aerosol paint usually gold car paint from halfords then give it a bit of a key then gild on top, never had a problem, tell you what you can use as well is that plastisized primer/filler that you use on plastic car bumpers, it fills the edges of foamex nicely too.
