Glue suitable for mounting posters to foamboard

that canon looks like a nice bit of kit. for the best result learn the laminator quick your supplier should have spent time teaching you mine did. after they left we had run out of things to laminate or mount.

I’m not sure why you would want to glue if you have a laminator. When we are doing paper outputs we routinely apply the over laminate to our images as well as an adhesive back. Think of it like encapsulating your image… except the backing will have a release liner covering the adhesive. After having done this, un-web your laminator and adjust the roller height so that it will allow the substrate and image through with enough pressure to activate the adhesive but not to crush the substrate. Once you have done this all you need to do is remove (fold back) about 25mm of the release liner and manually apply the exposed adhesive area to the substrate. At this point you can simply run your substrate though the un-webed laminator while holding onto the release liner (pulling it away bit by bit as required). If you’ve applied vinyl by hand I would think that this would be pretty straight forward.

The downside of all of this is that the backing adhesives can be very expensive. Your lamination film vendor should be able to advise which adhesive backs work well with which substrates. Many of these vendors will have a nice compatibility chart.

For smaller projects I suppose you could apply a spray adhesive to the back of your paper and then manually apply to your substrate. We’ve done this when it’s just not worth the bother of screwing with the laminator and when other conditions deem this appropriate.

Just don’t mistake it for hairspray!

run the board through the machine, applying double sided sticky
then either throw the print down, and run it through
or rollit up and feed it through
-you CANNOT put ‘wet’ adheisive on foam board
-kappa -whatever as it will bow
-it will also bow if the pressure of the rollers is too high
-plus if it gets damp

-thats only if you cannot apply d/s stick ‘hot’ to the print
-then mount
-did you buy a metre wide laminator – what a waste of money
-5 feet or nothing – do it by hand

Good day.

I need to mount 2 old paper maps on 8mm foamex. (1000x1450mm)

1) Where to by mounting film from? (ideally per meter or 5m max as rarely do this sort of work)
2) Will somebody sell me 3 meters of double sided mounting film?
(I arrange the shipping) Fast Pay Pay, family and friends option.

It doesn’t have to be optical clear mounting film.

Please advice: In which order it is best to mount paper poster onto foamex using mounting film.

We do mount film to untrimmed posters. (Poster needs to be wider than film if laminating)

Then mount to substrate, and trim.

If you’ve already trimmed them, you’ll need some old backing paper to stop the MF sticking to your rollers, or do it by hand.

Map is purchased from the net – Already trimmed.

What do you do first? Put adhesive on the poster? Do you put adhesive to the substrate first? Laminate first?

In that case then depending on the size I would.

Unroll the film on the bench, adhesive side up
Mount the print to the film by hand
Trim out print from the film (doesnt need to be neat)
Mount poster to the board then trim neat.

We always mount the film to the print using the laminator, unless it’s a small job, pre cut.
