  • Glue Remover Chemical

Posted by DaneRead on 20 October 2008 at 14:51

Got both sides of a 15mt x 2.5mt trailer full of old glue.

Has anyone got a better idea then the follwoing:

Auto Glym Tar and adhesive remover not strong enough.

3M Adhesive Remover not available not stock will take 3 months.

Rub it vinyl glue remover too expensive and not that effective

Petrol not bad but its makes the glue all guey and you end up getting a spreading the glue mess from one side to the other.

    Thinners does the same thing

Im racking my brain. but i cant think of normal type of chemical that can do . We can also mix thechemicall up ourselves form a chemical manufacturer if necessary.

Has anyone got a better way of doing this.

Thinking about MEK has anyone tried this.

Rapid Remover by the folks who make Rapid Tac.
It’s not cheap but it works and saves a ton of labor.

    Not first options but:

a pressure washer/steamer thing… you know what I mean? I’ve used these to remove vinyl before and they take the glue as well.

Wall paper steamer – normally use for removing vinyl but it will soften glue enough to use a squeegee to get it of

hi jill have you tried this stuff before.

What is the common use for orange terpene

    No, I haven’t.
But I have heard that it is the main ingredient in Rapid Remover.
And also that it is water soluble.
You can dilute it with water as needed.
Here is a direct quote from another sign forum:

    quote :

You can go to or order from
any janitorial supply co; some (orange terpene)
or some (d-limonene), both products are made from
orange peels and can be watered down some (to your
own specs) and also cleaned off with soap and
    water.

I always use simply white spirit, works if you time it right and are logical in approach.

Wipe it on lavishly with a cloth, wait a minute or so and agitate it into the glue with a cloth, a foam sponge or a scotchbrite pad (depending upon the substate i.e. whether it is harmed from scratching excessively).
For your size of work I’d make a couple of long scrapers from foam pvc and after waiting another couple of minutes start wiping down from top to bottom, should get 3/4 off in big sticky balls.
Repeat, should get another 3/4 off of the 1/4 that’s left.
The remaining should wipe down with a cloth after another soaking in white spirit.

thanks for the advise i will try and locate the chemicals and get back to you.

We did have good results yesterday with petrol and thinners mix. Paint it on with a paint brush then scrape it off with wide window blade scrapers. Seems to do the job pretty well.

    This is all I use.

Called many names, but Orange Solv is the most common, or a derivative of that.

Brilliant glue remover, and makes your hands smell lovely too
    😳

Removes ink, grease, tar, oil and glue. Good all purpose eco friendly chemical

We use citrus solvent. Leave it in the sun, wash it down, spray the citrus on, leave it for 5 minutes, pressure hose it off and repeat. You can use a plastic squeegee as well to scrap the goop off.

    "Jelsol" or "GELSOLV"

Aerosol – Chewing Gum, Label & Graffiti Remover.

Quickly removes chewing gum, labels and graffiti from fabric and vinyl upholstery, floors and walls.

THIS STUFF WORKS BETTER THAN ANYTHING ELSE I HAVE SO FAR DISCOVERED INCLUDING GRAFITYP’s EXPENSIVE GLUE REMOVER!

I get it from Autosmart (www.autosmart.co.uk) who deliver it to my door via their rep for the area, It costs me about £3 a can normally.

Trust me, this stuff is the feshnizzle for removing glue on vehicles, boards etc, Spray on and wipe off with the utmost of ease…honestly.

    One Can lasts me ages.

    Jay.
