  • Glow in the dark Wrap sourcing question?

Posted by Dan Osterbery on 16 April 2013 at 16:03

    Hi All,
I am sure this is impossible but here go’s! We have been asked to source a wrap material that glows in the dark? Charged by the sun during the day and then emits light at night? Anyone ever heard of anything like that? I havent and have asked a few spanish suppliers but to no avail. If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great.

    thanks

    Dan

I have played around with quite a lot of photoluminescent films over the past few years, all have fallen way short of any kind of performance like you require.

there was a mercedes wrapped in it but, it came was in a well lit studio that was then plunged into darkness. the only success I’ve had with thise films in my specialed area of testing them, was by wrapping the product and charging it with a UV torch in a foil lined box, it would last around 30mins max and that was only because it was against a very dark background.

here it is, you would be extremely disapointed if you expected it to simply hold a charge as you drove it around all night! unless you’re driving in a cave with no lights on of course!

I’ve not seen anything new since this was made.

photo-luminescent as has been said. the best i have had is oracals, its more of a white than any other photo-luminescent i have saw as they are all sort of green/yellow.
its also thinner and more conformable with what appears to be a regular adhesive, whilst those similar are thick and a cheap adhesive.

Not tried this but I wonder if it would be possible to spray a car that has been wrapped in normal wrap vinyl with a photo-luminescent paint. Guessing it would work out quite expensive to do.

I’m told you can get glow in the dark ‘balloons’ !! but I guess that would be stretching it a bit … 😉

thanks guys! That video doesn’t look or sound like wrap vinyl. Will have chat with Oracal rep and see what he thinks. The only photo-luminescent vinyl i have played with or applied had a clear protective layer over the top and was not conformable at all!

    cheers

The majority of vinyls are made for safety signage and designed to work for an exit time of about 30 minutes, beyond this you need battery backed up lights. So based on that alone its highly unlikely there will be a wrapping vinyl version with a longer life……
