glass etch: windows
Posted by Marcella Ross on 14 November 2006 at 09:31Here’s another bit of glass etch done last week. It was a pain in the a$$ to do with all the pattern, especially weeding as I couldn’t see the damn thing! It was plain etch, no hint of colour or sparkle so it’s hard to see it. But looks nice all the same.
Shame the typical scottish weather threw rain all over the other side of the glass 😕Lynn Normington replied 19 years, 1 month ago 7 Members · 9 Replies -

Hi Marcella
did you apply it wet or dry? Ive just messed one up for my wifes business 😳 i tried to do it dry with cheapy etch vinyl. What did you use and were did you get the vinyl from? – looks great by the way.Mart

thats really really lovely, the thing i like most about these jobs is that you can fit them in the lovely warm inside.

Mart,
I did this using Metafrost from Metamark – it’s only £5 per metre or so for 1220mm wide, cheap stuff. But I find it easy to work with. Their silver etch is nice too but more expensive at twice the price (still not expensive tho), but higher quality.
This I applied wet, to float it into position. Squeedgee’d out the fluid then left it for a hour and a half or so then soaked the app tape, left it another 20 – 30 mins then that came of easy without taking the etch off. Helps when the inside temperature is warm! -
when the vinyl has been cut, i rub dust (found everywhere here!) over the vinyl highlighting the cut lines – saves staring at a blank sheet scratching your head! rob
