  • Gerber Thermal printers – purchasing advice.

    Hi All,

I’ve was looking at purchasing a Gerber Edge a while back but decided to get another company to do the work for me as it would save me the outlay of buying one. The reason for a Gerber is my work (which is part time working from home) is mainly doing small labels and complany stickers for bikes which almost all need a solid white print onto a chrome foil or clear vinyl.
Anyway to cut to the chase I really could do with owning my own now but I’m looking at the second hand market, I’ve seen a few on ebay and it seems a risk to purchase from there… so what I’m asking is there any place who deals with ex-demo or used Edge Printers? Should I really be keeping away from the Edge1 as an FX is really out of my budget, I cant seem to find much info on the differences of the Edge 1, 2 and FX.

    Thanks in advance
    Derek

We have an Edge II. It’s a great machine. Much faster than the Edge I. One thing to watch out for though. If you have a newer computer, you may not be able to run it.

I would go for an edge 2, Spandex may still be selling them with a warranty, they did take them as a part ex for the FX. Make sure you buy with a plotter and software though. you need the package, the gerber cannot be run without a thermal program, omega, signlab or flexi for example

Thanks to both of you for the advice, I’ll give Spandex another try tomorrow, although last time I contacted them they never got back in touch. 🙁

2 attempts to contact spandex resulting in no contact back.. I guess they don’t need new business.

    SO…

Does anyone know any resellers who might stock a second user Edge/Edge2?
