it should be possible, but a half cut normally leaves a tab every few inches or so to keep the decal from falling out, so is best done in the cutting/print and cut program. Providing you set the pressure so it does not cut through the backing entirely you should not damage the strip, although it and the blade will wear put quicker than normal,
You may find its a bit hit and miss to set up though, and results may not be that good, but worth a try,
You may even be able to set up the contour cut to leave a small tab in your software?

Spandex do or did a clear polycarb type material that we used to score on the gerber, then break into panels.
