    Hiya folks
I’ve got an old (read very old!) computer running Gerber Composer (c/w dongle) which I bought when I first set up. It’s a windows 95 based system which tells you all you need to know about it’s age (Floppy disc anyone?) 😀

Anyway I still use it for some jobs and quite like the software. Now I’ve got the opportunity to have a Gerber Edge and cutter to plug in and use from a company who don’t need it any longer. I’ve just tried plugging it all together, but when I sent a job to print the ‘Edge printer icon’ doesn’t become active although the output screen operates normally.

    Any ideas would be appreciated?

The Edge works fine (I’ve used this one in the past) and my system was originally used for printing to an Edge.

    Thanks
    Paul

    ps
Am I right in understanding that it is also possible to use an Edge printer from Signlab?

From what I remember is there a cut only version of composer.

What version of Composer is it, CP or CS?
IIRC CP would be the Edge version, whilst CS does not have the facility to create & send jobs to the edge.

Quick way to try is to select a shape in Composer and press "1! on the keyboard (above the letter "Q", not on the numeric keypad). If nothing happens you cannot use the Edge, if you get a Fill dialog screen you can use the Edge.

    quote Paul Seeley:

system was originally used for printing to an Edge.

    Thanks guys
I can see there was some ambiguity. I should have been clearer saying that this machine has previously been printing to an edge okay, so it’s definately capable of printing to an Edge printer.

    Cheers

    ps
I’m wondering if there is an option in the ‘output device select’ part of the output screen . . . that’s what I’ll try next anyway, unless I get a better suggestion (Only trouble is I need to cart my computer over to the machine again to try it out) 🙁

I think you have to choose what machine you are outputting to. It should be on the top menu bar somewhere. Not got it in front of me at the moment.

Yes we use sign lab for edge printing but you have to have the correct version with the thermal plug-in

Right, in this case if you run a program called GSPTray (it’s in the group of programs in the GSP folder on the menu), this will put an icon in the notification area of the taskbar (bottom right of the screen). Right-click on this icon and then left-click on "install Vinyl Printer", and from there on follow the instructions to add the Edge to your system.

    Regards,
    George

Not used an edge but guessing it will be either parallel or serial, have you checked that the port is configured correctly for the printer.
