Gerber edge new print head
Just to add to the debate about service contracts – we have a blown pixel on our gerber edge, so obviously the print head needs replacing. Here is a break down of the likely cost quoted to me:
New print head – £1200
2 day call out charge (2 days not guaranteed) – £450
10 day call out charge (10 days not guaranteed) – £250
1st hour free then £75 an hour after that
We cancelled our service contract last year, then again weve had the edge for 3.5 years and this is the first print head gone so not too bad.

I’d be gutted, those boys at spandex certainly know how to charge what a RIP OFF!
Hope you’ve made lots of dosh from it in 3.5 years, I bet you paid a hell of a lot more for your machine than you can by one for now that would be my argument.

Not too bad – but then again its not me that has to pay for it (not me that cancelled the service contract either) we print 3 – 500 meters a week so it has had a great deal of use, more than paid for itself, so much so that were probably going for the edge 2 now. If I remember rightly we paid about £17,000 for the edge 1 and plotter and you can buy reconditioned now for about £5000

There was on ebay last week, went for $4200, (£2200) edge two.
There are only good for specific prints.
You may be able to pick up a bargain, but remember check its working if theres another going for sale.

Have ordered the edge 2 from Spandex wich arrives next week and will get the edge 1 completely refurbished later on.
