Does anybody bother taking this out, it just seems to me that for what they are asking for cover per month I might as well buy a new machine, is it worth it? I have been quoted a £250 call out fee etc and the head is extra if I want that covered, I think if I took the cover out they are suggesting I wouldn’t have much change from £150 a month and I have already been warned that it will increase every year.
I guess what I am asking as well is, can anybody else repair these machines when the inevitable occurs?
My rough calculations are that hopefully I will be able to use this machine trouble free for the next 3-4 years by which time the money I would have spent per month would allow me to buy another (re-conditioned) or a larger format printer.

I would say no its not worth it, our Edge is also about 10 years old, during that time the head has been replaced once. that is the only repair it has had.

Saying that it will probably break down now & cost us a load!!

    cheers

    Jason,

My opinion is that these things need to be regarded as an insurance policy rather than warranty/maintenance arrangements.

On our printer I would be quite happy not to have any cover in force from a financial point of view. These things are expensive and I would rather accept the risks myself than pay somebody else to do it on my behalf. I am sure I would come out on top.

However, that’s not the whole story. We rely on our printer and if we have a breakdown I need to be able to pick up the phone and have an engineer here by tomorrow at the latest to put it right. That’s what I am paying for.

We have been looking into the extended warranty for our Grenadier this week as it has come up for renewal.

For the last 12 months, we have paid the manufacturers warranty/maintenance cover at a staggering £191 a month, our printer is a 54 inch print & cut and just going into it’s 4th year.

Yesterday, just minutes before posting the new contract off, I decided to check on the internet for an alternative, hopefully cheaper plan.

I found Graphi Plan, the cover includes all parts/labour/heads/pump etc, no additional call out fees, includes an annual service, and next day response by engineer.

    For £89.00 per month.

I checked if anything was excluded, they said nothing, the only time there would be any exclusion would be if we didn’t use manufacturers ink, which is standard with any cover I think.

We are going ahead with this, but thought it might be helpful for others, looking to save some money, that is one BIG monthly saving for us.

    Happy Saving
    Steve
